Effect of Interest Rates on Consumption

Abstract:

Tématem diplomové práce je vliv úrokových sazeb na spotřebu. Cílem této práce je zjistit, jaký je vliv úrokových sazeb na spotřebu domácností. Pomocí deskriptivní analýzy je popsán vývoj úrokových sazeb, spotřeby a dalších klíčových ukazatelů pro země Visegrádské čtyřky (Česká republika, Slovensko, Polsko, Maďarsko). Poté provedením panelové regresní analýzy je zjištěn vliv krátkodobých a dlouhodobých úrokových sazeb na spotřebu. Pro účely této práce byly použity data z databáze OECD a World Bank pro období 1999-2022. Z diplomové práce vyplývá, že úrokové sazby mají negativní vliv na spotřebu, který však není významný.

Abstract:

The topic of the thesis is the effect of interest rates on consumption. The aim of this thesis is to find out the effect of interest rates on household consumption. Descriptive analysis is used to describe the evolution of interest rates, consumption and other key indicators for the Visegrad Four countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary). Then, by conducting a panel regression analysis, the impact of short-term and long-term interest rates on consumption is determined. For the purpose of this thesis, data from the OECD and World Bank databases for the period 1999-2022 were used. The thesis shows that interest rates have a negative effect on consumption, which is not significant.
