The garment Industry in Bangladesh focusing on "The Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh"

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je věnována problematice pracovních podmínek v oděvním průmyslu Bangladéše, přičemž se zaměřuje na dohodu „Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh“. Teoretická část je věnována oděvnímu průmyslu obecně, problematickým oblastem továren v tomto průmyslu, mezinárodním organizacím a iniciativám pracujícím za zlepšení těchto podmínek a bangladéšskému zákonu práce. Praktická část pak rozebírá oděvní průmysl Bangladéše, dohody, které tam působí v rámci oděvního průmyslu, obzvláště je tato práce zaměřena na dohodu AFBSB a novou dohodu „Accord 2018“, která je jejím pokračováním. Značná část práce se tedy věnuje efektivnosti této dohody a provedení její SWOT analýzy. Závěrem je uvedena diskuze nové dohody a změn, které by měla přinést na zlepšení pracovních podmínek tohoto průmyslu v Bangladéši a je diskutováno možné zlepšení implementace dohody.

Abstract:

This final thesis is focused on the issue of labour conditions of the garment industry in Bangladesh, whereas the main focused is on an agreement “Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh”. The theoretical part of this thesis is about garment industry in general, the problematic issues of garment factories, international organizations and initiatives working towards better labour conditions in this industry and the Bangladeshi labour law. The practical part of the thesis from the beginning analyses garment industry of Bangladesh and the agreements of this industry in the country. The main focus of the thesis is on the agreements AFBSB and “Accord 2018” which is its continuation. Substantial part of this thesis is dedicated to efficacy and the SWOT analyses of AFBSB. In conclusion this thesis discusses the new agreement “Accord 2018” and the changes it should bring to improve labour conditions of this industry in Bangladesh and it discuses better way of implementation of this agreement.
