Analysis of the adaptation of the play Murder in a Parlor Car Compartment into the cult film Dissolved and Effused, taking in the account the staging practice of the Jára Cimrman Theater

Abstract:

Předmětem této práce je analýza adaptace divadelní hry Divadla Járy Cimrmana Vražda v salonním coupé do filmové komedie Rozpuštěný a vypuštěný a zodpovězení otázky, co bylo při procesu adaptace zachováno z původní hry a jak film pracuje s humorem. Analýza je založena na metodologii Briana McFarlana a je rozdělena do několika částí, které se zabývají přenosem různých druhů narativních funkcí. Analýze předcházejí kontextuální informace o Divadle Járy Cimrmana a autorech obou zkoumaných děl, Ladislavu Smoljakovi a Zdeňku Svěrákovi, a teoretické ukotvení představující několik příkladů adaptačních teorií včetně teorie Briana McFarlana.

Abstract:

The subject of this thesis is the analysis of the adaptation of the theater play by Jára Cimrman Theater Murder in a Salon Coupe into the film comedy Dissolved and Effused and answering the question of what was preserved from the original play during the adaptation process and how the film works with humor. The analysis is based on Brian McFarlane's methodology and is divided into several parts that deal with the transmission of different kinds of narrative functions. The analysis is preceded by contextual information about the Jára Cimrman Theater and the authors of both examined works, Ladislav Smoljak and Zdeněk Svěrák, and a theoretical anchoring presenting several examples of adaptation theories, including Brian McFarlane's theory.
