Abstract:

Tato práce pojednává o stručném nastínění vztahu mezi amiši, potomky novokřtěneckého hnutí, které se formovalo v reformační době v 16. století, a médii. Amišové se vyznačují svou uzavřeností vůči okolní společnosti a specifickým životním stylem – udržují si svůj vlastní jazyk (pensylvánská němčina), odívají se do stejnokrojů, odmítají využívat vymoženosti moderní doby (televize, rádio, internet, elektřina, automobily). Média v tomto případě hrají roli zprostředkovatele a díky této pozici se podílí na vytváření určitého náhledu na amišskou skupinu. Takové vyobrazení se může od skutečnosti značně lišit a vést ke stereotypnímu vnímání. Diváci mají tendenci vnímat zprostředkovaný obraz jako pravdivý a na jeho základě si vytvářet postoj k amišské skupině. První část této práce se zabývá historickým rámcem vzniku novokřtěnectví, amišů a jejich vývoj zhruba do 19. století, také jsou stručně popsány amišské hodnoty, jenž tvoří jádro celé komunity. Druhá část práce tvoří rozpracování jednotlivých médií a jejich vztah k amišům. Důraz je pak kladen na vyobrazení ve filmech a vytvoření vlastní typologie: 1) Filmy, které řeší vztah moderní společnosti a tradiční amišské společnosti, a ty se dále dělí na vyobrazení a) idylické a b) kritické. 2) Filmy, kde se amišská komunita objevuje jen jako doplňující prvek, primárně nejsou ústředním bodem děje. 3) Dokumenty zaměřující se primárně na samotné amiše. Vztah mezi mladou a starší generací, otázka poslušnosti a podřízenosti církevním pravidlům.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with a brief outline of the relationship between the Amish, Anabaptist movement who arose in the Reformation in the 16th century, and the media. The Amish are characterized by their separation from the outside world and have a specific lifestyle – they keep their own language (Pennsylvania Dutch), wear uniforms, refuse to use conveniences of modern world (televisions, radios, the Internet, electricity, cars). In this case, media plays the main part of mediators and thank to this position participates in depicting Amish image for the general public. That image can be really different from the reality and can lead to a stereotypical perception of them. The viewers tend to perceive this image as accurate and based on this perception they create an opinion towards the Amish community. The first part of my work focuses on the historic circumstances of Anabaptist and Amish origin and their progress until the 19th century. There are also described the Amish values that form the core of their community. The emphasis is placed on the depiction in films which led to the creation of my own typology: 1) Films which deal with the relationship between modern society and traditional Amish society. These films are divided into two subgroups a) idyllic depiction, b) critical depiction. 2) Films where the Amish form just a background for the main plot and are not in the centre of attention. 3) Documentaries focusing on the Amish as such, concentrating on the question of relationship between young and old generation and obedience to the Church.
