The German-Czech email correspondence in an intercultural context

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of the German-Czech email communication in an intercultural context. The field for the survey is the academic milieu, i.e. the interaction between Czech students und German professors. The theoretical part is built on the explanation of basic cultural terms, that influence the whole conversation, to help to explain the issues of an international contact between the two nations. The practical part concentrates on analyzing the filled questionnaires from the both parts and some authentic examples of emails, that are also as attachment to be found. Attention is paid particularly to the terms such as politeness, critic, cultural standards. The aim of the thesis is to find out, whether and eventually what kind of differences there are in this type of communication, what causes them and how they are being taken.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou německo-české e-mailové komunikace v interkulturním kontextu. Výzkum se soustřeďuje na akademickou půdu čili na interakci mezi českými studenty a německými vysokoškolskými učiteli. Teoretická část je založena na vysvětlení základních kulturních pojmů, které ovlivňuji celou konverzaci, a má za úkol objasnit problémy interkulturního kontaktu mezi těmito dvěma národy. Praktická část se soustřeďuje na analýzu dotazníků vyplněných respondenty obou zkoumaných skupin a některých autentických příkladů e-mailů, které jsou k nalezení také v příloze práce. Pozornost je věnována zvláště pojmům jako zdvořilost, kritika, kulturní standardy. Cílem práce je zjistit, zda vůbec a popř. jaké jsou interkulturní rozdíly v této komunikaci, čím jsou vyvolány a jak se na ně pohlíží.
