Czech currency holding in relation to the Czech National Bank's rhetoric in respect to the exchange rate

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá vliv prohlášení České národní banky ohledně kurzového závazku na držbu českých korun. V období od listopadu 2013 do dubna 2017 jsme mohli být svědky intervenčního konání ČNB na devizovém trhu. Jelikož centrální banka České republiky nechtěla nadále snižovat základní úrokovou sazbu, rozhodla se k cílování inflace, jejíž pomocí se snaží udržet cenovou stabilitu, využít devizové intervence. V mé práci nevyhodnocuji dopady měnového zásahu, ale věnuji se verbální komunikaci centrálních bankéřů a její dopady na měnový agregát M2. Současná literatura, kterou shrnuji v teoretické části, se často věnuje buď pouze tzv. forward guidance, tedy prohlášení centrální banky o budoucím vývoji měnové politiky nebo pouze vlivu měnových intervencí. Proto se snažím zaměřit na kombinaci obou faktorů zároveň, a následný výzkum podporuje moji hypotézu o vlivu verbálních intervencí na držbu českých korun.

Abstract:

This Bachelor Thesis examines the influence of the Czech National Bank's statement about the exchange rate commitment for the Czech currency. Between November 2013 and April 2017, we have witnessed the Czech National Bank's intervention on the foreign exchange market. As the Central Bank of the Czech Republic did not want to continue to lower the basic interest rate, it decided to direct inflation (by which it maintains price stability) though currency interventions. In this Thesis, I do not evaluate the effects of monetary interventions, instead, I am dealing with the verbal communication of central bankers and their implications on the Monetary Aggregate M2. Contemporary literature, which I summarize in the theoretical part, is often referring to the so called Forward Guidance, a statement by the Central Bank on the future development of its monetary policy or just the influence of monetary interventions. Therefore, I try to focus on a combination of both factors at the same time, and the subsequent research supports my hypothesis about the influence of verbal interventions on the possession of the Czech currency
