Teaching A Child With A Traumatic Brain Injury: A Case Study

Abstract:

A traumatic brain injury is a disability caused by an accident involving a head injury. I have chosen a topic about this kind of injury, because I think it is not widely recognized and known. I am definitely interested in teaching children with certain disabilities, because I want to see them improving and becoming more independent. In my opinion, it is very interesting and encouraging, to take part in a very long lasting process of becoming independent in the most basic activities in life and, what is more, to teach such children how to fit into society, how to prepare for work and further life. My aim is to collect as much information as possible about traumatic brain injury (TBI), not only for teachers, but also for parents of these children, because TBI can hit anybody in society and it is vastly difficult to prevent it. I hope my work will help Czech teachers, because there is lack of materials about TBI in the Czech Republic. I focus on education, so that teachers do not use methods used for other disabilities, because every injury or disability needs its own manner to be dealt with. It is incorrect to teach all children with one method, because every child is special and needs special handling not only at school, but also in private life.
