Republic of South Africa - the Regional Leader

Abstract:

Tato práce se snaží nastínit postavení Jihoafrické republiky jako hegemona v rámci oblasti jižní Afriky na přesně vymezeném období 20. století a počátku 21. století. V jednotlivých částech práce jsou představeny skutečnosti a předpoklady, kterými JAR pro své postavení hegemona regionu jižní Afriky disponuje. V prvé řadě je v práci snaha poukázat na klíčové historické souvislosti, kterými JAR zejména po dekolonizaci afrického kontinentu prošla. V rámci historie je zde zohledněn vývoj v rámci mezilidských vztahů, kde jedním z klíčových problémů byla otázka rasismu. Jedním z klíčových témat je postavení JAR na poli mezinárodních vztahů a v rámci celé řady nejrůznějších organizací, kterých sama je tato země členem, či byla vlastním iniciátorem jejich založení. Tyto organizace se snaží celou oblast regionu stmelit jak po stránce hospodářské, tak i politické a kulturní. I přestože se JAR po celou dobu své existence potýká s mnoha vnitropolitickými problémy, její ekonomická situacie byla vždy příznivá. V práci proto nejsou opomenuty příčiny úspěšného ekonomického postavení v rámci regionu.

Abstract:

This paper aims at defining the regional hegemonic role of the Republic of South Africa in the period of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21 century. In the respective sections, facts and dispositions for hegemonic attitudes of the Republic of South Africa are presented to support the claim of this work. First, key historical background of the African post-colonial era is described to help to understand the context of RSA political and social developments. These developments mainly include the change in the interpersonal relations, more precisely the racism and its tendencies. Second, international positions and attitudes of RSA are studied in respect to various organizations memberships or their actual creation/initiation. These organizations pursue the goal of unifying the whole region in the economic, political and cultural affairs. Despite the domestic political problems, RSA´s economic situation has always been quite steadily growing. This is the reason, why the paper also includes the reasons of the RSA´s economic success in the region.
