Abstract:
Chobotnatci představují největší suchozemské savce, z nichž dodnes přežívají pouze tři druhy slonů. Fosilní záznam dokládá africký původ chobotnatců, jejichž první diverzifikace již v paleogénu na území Afriky vedla ke vzniku deinotérií, gomfotérií, amebelodontidů a mammutidů. Proboscideans represent the largest known terrestrial mammals, of which only three species of elephants survive up to present days. The fossil record documents the African origin of Proboscidea whose first diversification in Africa, dated as early as the Paleogene, led to the rice of deinotheres, gomphotheres, amebelodontids and mammutids.
