Political-philosophical aspects of the death penalty

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se věnuje politicko-filozofickým aspektům trestu smrti. Jako první se zaměřím na politické aspekty trestu smrti, a to konkrétněji na lidsko-právními dokumenty, které tuto problematiku zaštiťují. Dále se se budu věnovat diskusi o trestu smrti, jak z pohledu zastánci, tak i odpůrců. V neposlední řadě se zaměřím na stěžejní část diplomové práce, a to na filozofický aspekt trestu smrti. V této části se budu věnovat právu na život u filozofických myslitelů, jako byl Thomas Hobbes, John Locke nebo Beccaria a další. Pokusím se vysvětlit jejich koncepci, jak právo na život jednotlivě chápou, a co pro ně znamená, nakonec jejich koncepce porovnám a vyzdvihnu v čem se jejich koncepce a myšlenky liší a v čem naopak ne.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the political and philosophical aspects of death penalty. The main aim of this work is to analyze human Rights documents, such as the Universal declaration of human rights, and their relation to the problem of death penalty. Furthemore, the thesis inquires the question of reinstation of the death penalty. The last and crucial part focused on the right to live according to philosophers, such as Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Beccaria and several others. The work compars their conceptions, seeking their differences and similarities.
