The origin and distribution of the all-male lineage of hybrid water frogs of the genus Pelophylax

Abstract:

V přírodě lze nalézt mnoho asexuálních organismů, jež jsou zároveň unisexuální, avšak jejich populace jsou zastoupeny v převážné většině samicemi. Protikladem k těmto populacím je skokan zelený (Pelophylax esculentus, genotyp LR), mezidruhový hybrid skokana skřehotavého (P. ridibundus, RR) a skokana krátkonohého (P. lessonae, LL), který vytváří populace, v nichž spolu žijí samci i samice. V povodí řeky Odry byla popsána hybridní vše-samčí linie, kde žijí hybridní samci se svým rodičovským druhem P. ridibundus a tvoří tzv. R-E systém. Samci P. esculentus jsou závislí na oocytech samiček svého parentálního druhu P. ridibundus a jsou tak jejich sexuálním parazitem. Tito samci se rozmnožují hybridogeneticky, kdy po eliminaci ridibundus genomu klonálně přenáší pouze lessonae genom do dalších generací. Původ a rozšíření této vše-samčí linie je otázkou, na kterou tato práce hledá odpověď.

Abstract:

In nature we can found many asexual organisms which are also unisexual but their populations are mostly represented by females. In contrast to these populatios, the edible frogs Pelophylax esculentus (genotype RL), an interspecific hybrid between the lake frog (P. ridibundus, RR) and the pool frog (P. lessonae, LL) forms populations where both males and females live together. Unique hybrid all-male lineage has been found in the Oder river basin where hybrid males live in sympatry with their parental species P. ridibundus and form so-called R-E system. P. esculetnus males are dependent on female oocytes of their parental species P. ridibundus and thus are their sexual parasites. These males reproduce hybridogenetically and transfer only the lessonae genome clonally to the next generations after the elimination of the ridibundus genome. The origin and distribution of the all-male hybrid lineage is a question to which this work seeks an answer.
