The Role of Iran and Saudi Arabia in the Yemeni Civil War

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na komplexní analýzu a hodnocení role Íránu a Saúdské Arábie v kontextu probíhající jemenské občanské války. Práce detailně rozebírá historické pozadí konfliktu, včetně vlivu Arabského jara v Jemenu, vzestupu radikálního hnutí Ansar Alláh a zapojení teroristické organizace al-Káida na Arabském poloostrově. Dále se práce zabývá analýzou složitých íránsko-saúdských vztahů, které jsou do značné míry charakterizovány proxy konflikty v regionu. Práce dále zkoumá formy podpory a motivace intervencí Íránu a Saúdské Arábie v Jemenu a hodnotí jejich dopady na stabilitu jak v Jemenu, tak v celém regionu. Cílem práce je poskytnout ucelený pohled na vývoj situace v Jemenu od Arabského jara, odhalit hloubku soupeření mezi Saúdskou Arábií a Íránem a přispět k hlubšímu pochopení jejich rolí v proxy válkách, včetně té jemenské.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis provides a comprehensive analysis and evaluation of the roles of Iran and Saudi Arabia in the ongoing Yemeni civil war. The thesis delves into the historical background of the conflict, including the influence of the Arab Spring in Yemen, the rise of the radical Ansar Allah movement, and the involvement of the terrorist organization al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Furthermore, the thesis analyzes the complex Iran-Saudi Arabia relationship, which is largely characterized by proxy conflicts in the region. The thesis also examines the forms of support and motivations behind the interventions of Iran and Saudi Arabia in Yemen and evaluates their impacts on stability both in Yemen and in the wider region. The aim of the thesis is to provide a comprehensive overview of the development of the situation in Yemen since the Arab Spring, to reveal the depth of the rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran, and to contribute to a deeper understanding of their roles in proxy wars, including the one in Yemen.
