Development tendencies of foreign trade of the OPEC member countries

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na vývojové tendence zahraničního obchodu vybraných států OPEC od roku 1995 až 2019 a na jejich porovnání. Konkrétně jde o Spojené arabské emiráty, Saúdskou Arábii, Kuvajt, Irák a Írán. Tyto státy jsou spojovány především s ropným průmyslem, jakožto klíčovým odvětvím daných ekonomik. V práci je analyzován vývoj zahraničního obchodu v rámci komoditní struktury, z dostupných dat z databáze UNCTAD Statistics. Z nabytých dat jsou v prvé řadě provedeny analýzy základních indikátorů zahraničního obchodu, společně s národohospodářskými indikátory. Posléze jsou použity detailnější indikátory zahraničního obchodu, které jsou vypočteny formou stát vůči světu. Jedná se o analýzy komparativní výhody, určující komodity, v jejichž exportu mají pozorované státy výhodu, či nevýhodu oproti světu. Dále koeficient koncentrace, pomocí kterého je zjištěna komoditní a teritoriální struktura. Posléze je vypočítán Herfindahl-Hirschman index, který zachycuje celkovou míru koncentrace zahraničního obchodu. Především pomocí analýz Herfindahl-Hirschman indexu a koeficientu koncentrace bylo zjištěno, že všechny pozorované státy vyjma Iráku diverzifikují svoji strukturu zahraničního obchodu. V rámci exportu se přeorientovávají především na chemické výrobky či reexport komodit. Také lze u všech států pozorovat postupné posilování role Číny a Indie, co se nejvýznamnějších exportních destinací týče.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis is focused on and compares the development tendencies of foreign trade of chosen OPEC member countries from year 1995 till 2019. The thesis is specifically focused on OPEC countries in the Persian Gulf (United Arabic Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq and Iran). Observed countries are strongly linked with oil industry, which is considered a key industry of these economies. Development of foreign trade in terms of commodity structure is being analysed in the thesis from the UNCTAD Statistics database. Firstly, analysis of basic foreign trade indicators and national economy indicators is conducted. Afterwards more detailed indicators of foreign trade are calculated in a form of country to world, indicators are specifically comparative advantage, which determinates commodities with an advantage or disadvantage in terms of export compared to world. Further the coefficient of concentration analysis the commodity and territorial structure. The Herfindahl-Hirschman index calculated after coefficient of concentration. Purpose of this index is to capture the overall volume of concentration in terms of foreign trade. Predominantly the analysis of the Herfindahl-Hirschman index and coefficient of concentration had discovered that all countries except of Iraq are diversifying their structure of foreign trade. Typically, in terms of export the countries are focusing on chemical industries or commodity re-export. Simultaneously, the role of China and India are playing a vital position as they are main export destinations, as well as the growing role of these two countries may be spotted in the observed time period.
