Gender Discrimination in the Labor Market

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na popsání nejaktuálnější situace genderové diskriminace na trhu práce nejen v České republice, ale i v rámci členských států Evropské unie. Genderová diskriminace je problematika, která se promítá do celé společnosti a do ekonomické situace států. Jako hlavní indikátor nerovnosti je brán genderový rozdíl v odměňování. V České republice je tento rozdíl jeden z nejvyšších z EU a ženy si v ČR vydělají o více než 20 % méně než muži. Takto velký rozdíl může ženy odrazovat od účasti na pracovním trhu. Feminizované sektory jsou hůře odměňované a kariérní postup u žen není tak jednoduchý kvůli genderovým stereotypům a slaďování kariérního a rodinného života. Je provedeno zmapování nejaktuálnějších možných dat z trhu práce v České republice a je měřena genderová mzdová mezera v závislosti na některých proměnných jako jsou odvětví práce, věk, vzdělání a velikost zaměstnavatele. Na úrovní států EU je zkoumán vliv vybraných proměnných na genderovou mzdovou mezeru. Mezi proměnné patří reálný HDP na obyvatele, částečný úvazek, terciální vzdělání, podíl průmyslu anebo podíl služeb na HDP.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on the description of the most current situation of gender discrimination on the labor market not only in the Czech Republic, but also within the member states of the European Union. Gender discrimination is an issue that is reflected in the whole society and in the economic situation of states. The gender pay gap is taken as the main indicator of inequality. In the Czech Republic, this difference is one of the highest in the EU, and women in the Czech Republic earn more than 20% less than men. Such a big difference can discourage women from participating in the labor market. Feminized sectors are less rewarded and career advancement for women is not so easy due to gender stereotypes and the reconciliation of career and family life. The most recent possible data from the labor market in the Czech Republic are mapped and the gender wage gap is measured depending on some variables such as the labor sector, age, education, and the size of the employer. At the level of EU countries, the influence of selected variables on the gender wage gap is examined. Variables include, for example, real gross domestic product per capita, part-time work, tertiary education, industry, or services as a share of gross domestic product.
