Abstract:

Irregular migration across the Mediterranean has historical roots, with people moving in search of better economic opportunities, safety, and stability. However, the phenomenon has intensified in the past two decades due to various factors, including political instability, economic disparities, and social upheavals in the region. The Arab Spring, which began in late 2010, led to significant political transformations in Tunisia and Libya, further influencing migration patterns. Tunisia emerged from the Arab Spring with a relatively stable democratic transition, while Libya descended into civil conflict and chaos, creating a fertile ground for smuggling networks and irregular migration flows.
