Recent antisemitism as a social phenomenon in the Czech context viewed through structural - functionalist paradigm

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá fenoménem antisemitismu v současném českém prostředí optikou strukturálně-funkcionalistického paradigmatu. Účelem textu je zaprvé poskytnout vhled do komplexity této problematiky pomocí vybraných definic antisemitismu a charakteristik tohoto jevu v souvislosti s vybranými teoriemi vzniku fenoménu antisemitismu. Zadruhé si práce klade za cíl analyzovat současné pojetí antisemitismu v České republice skrze prováděné výzkumy českých i zahraničních organizací. Text mapuje aktuální postoje české populace vůči Židům a vybrané projevy antisemitismu v tomto prostředí. V práci jsou představeny hlavní teze strukturálně-funkcionalistického paradigmatu Talcotta Parsonse a Roberta Kinga Mertona, a toto paradigma je aplikováno na současný stav výzkumu antisemitismu v České republice, kde je aktuálně deklarována jeho nízká míra ve srovnání s ostatními evropskými zeměmi. V textu jsou shrnuty východiska zahraničních výzkumů z Německa, Polska a Maďarska, které pojímají antisemitismus z dalších perspektiv, jako jsou koncepty anomie, autoritářské osobnosti, xenofobie, nacionalismu, politické orientace a socio-demografické ukazatele, což má sloužit jako argumentace a návrh pro empirický výzkum antisemitismu v českém prostředí, protože práce shledává současné pojetí za nedostatečné.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the phenomena of anti-Semitism in contemporary Czech society according to the structural functionalist paradigm. The main purpose of the text is provide to insight into the complexity of this issue by using selected definitions of anti-Semitism and characteristics of this phenomenon in the context of theories of emergence of anti-Semitism. Second, the work aims to analyze the current concept of anti-Semitism in the Czech Republic through conducting research Czech and foreign organizations. Thesis describes current attitudes of Czech population against Jews and selected anti-Semitic incidents against Jews in this environment. The text presents the main points of the structural functionalist paradigm according to Talcott Parsons and Robert King Merton and moreover, this paradigm is applied to the current state of research of anti-Semitism in the Czech Republic, where it is currently declared its low rate compared of other European countries. The article summarizes the basis of foreign studies in Germany, Poland and Hungary, which study anti-Semitism from other perspectives – concepts such as anomie, authoritarian personality, xenophobia, nationalism, political orientation and socio-demographic data. It serves an argument for empirical research of anti-Semitism in the Czech society, because this thesis finds the current approach as insufficient.
