Autopsy as a process which creates bodies

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá fenoménem pitvy, který jakožto určitý proces, utváří specifickou podobu těla. Cílem této práce připravující vstup do terénu, bude předběžná analýza situace a interpretace specificky vnímaného těla. V její první části se věnuji pitvě samotné, kterou chápu jako jeden z mnoha projevů, jak kulturně a sociálně zacházet s tělem. Na základě jejího popisu jsem identifikoval důležité body vztahující se k vytváření těla na pitevně a současně jsem po komparaci pitvy s van Gennepovým vzorcem vážícím se ke struktuře rituálů, odhalil její latentní význam, jenž se skrývá v povaze iniciačního rituálu. Reflexí rozdílné pozice a přístupu mé práce a medicíny a její perspektivy zároveň odkrývám latentní dimenzi západní medicíny obecně. Ta je svojí podstatou blízká náboženství a jeho funkci a významu. V následujících částích se zaměřuji na vlastní problematiku, konstrukce těla na pitevně. Použitím sociálních konstruktů těla na prostor pitevny odhaluji samotné vnímání těla na pitevně, jež má svůj původ v diskurzu západní medicíny. V poslední části se pak vyjadřuji k hlavním faktorům, a jejich dopadům, vlivům, při zmíněném procesu vytváření těla na pitevně. Zamýšlím se konkrétně nad vlivem diskurzu, označováním těla a latentní funkcí lékařských záznamů. Touto prací se pokouším vytvořit konceptuální rámec, tedy určitou pozici, na jejímž základě budu provádět budoucí terénní výzkum vztahující se k otázce zacházení s tělem na pitevně.

Abstract:

This work deals with the phenomenon of autopsy, which creates a specific form of the body as it is a specifical process. The work is both preparing the entrance to the terrain and aiming to make a preliminary analysis of the situation as well an interpretation of the specifically sensed body. In the first part I pursue the autopsy phenomenon. I understand the autopsy as one of many expressions how to treat the body in a social and cultural way. On the basis of its description I have identified the important items refering to forming of the body in the dissecting room. At the same time I have revealed its latent meaning hidden in the character of the initiatory ritual after I had compared the autopsy with van Gennep formula bonding with the rituals structure. Simultaneously I discover the latent dimension of the western medicine in general by reflection of a different position and approach of my work on one side and medicine and its perspective on the other side. The western medicine is essentially close to religion and its function and sense. In following parts I focus on the main point which is forming of the body in the dissecting room. I expose the very perception of the body in the dissecting room by use of social constructs of the body to the dissecting room space. In the last part I comment on the main factors, their effects and influences during the mentioned process of forming of the body in the dissecting room. I reflect concretely the influence of discourse, body labeling as well as the influence of the doctors´ records related to the autopsy. I try to create a conceptual framework in this work, that means a certain position on the basis of which I am going to make future terrain research dealing with treatment of the body in the dissecting room.
