Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá metodou Jolly Phonics, primárně vytvořenou pro rodilé mluvčí anglického jazyka učící se číst a psát. Metoda byla následně adaptována pro výuku angličtiny jako druhého jazyka. Práce si klade za cíl shromáždění informací o této metodě a následné zhodnocení využití této metody ve výuce angličtiny jako druhého jazyka na vybraných školách v Ostravě. První část práce vysvětluje podstatu programu a vyzdvihuje jeho přednosti i nedostatky. Práce dále srovnává některé z principů programu s novodobými poznatky z oblasti psychologie učení, motivace, moderních didaktických přístupů a technik. Dále se práce zaměřuje na kvalitativní výzkum metodou případové studie. Na základě observací výukových hodin jsou tyto hodiny kriticky analyzovány spolu s názory a zkušenostmi učitelů s touto metodou. Bylo zjištěno, že metoda sama o sobě není zárukou vyvážené a efektivní hodiny, ale že důležitý vliv má především učitel a způsob, jakým s metodou pracuje.

Abstract:

The master thesis deals with the Jolly Phonics teaching method, originally created for native speakers of English learning to read and write. The method was later adapted for its use in EFL classrooms. The aim of the thesis is to collect information about the method and to subsequently evaluate its use in EFL classrooms in selected schools in Ostrava. The first part of the thesis explains the principles of the programme and points out both the advantages and disadvantages. It progresses to the comparison of some of its principles with contemporary knowledge from the fields of psychology of learning, motivation, modern didactic approaches and techniques. The thesis also focuses on a qualitative case study. Based on observations of English lessons, the lessons are critically analysed together with the views and experience of teachers with this method. It was found out that the method itself does not guarantee a balanced and effective lesson but that it is primarily the teacher and the way he or she works with the method that affects the results the most.
