Customizable 3D avatar for virtual reality applications

Abstract:

Táto práca sa zaoberá dizajnovaním 3D modelov pre reprezentáciu ľudskej podoby vo VR aplikáciach. Vývojár si môže importovať prvky, ako modely, skripty a textúry do Unity projektu a používať ich pre vývoj vlastnej sociálnej VR aplikácie. Jeden z prvkov je taktiež demo scéna, ktorá je ukážkou využitia prispôsobenia avatara. Scéna demonštruje ako si môže používateľ vytvoriť jedinečného avatara s radom prispôsobiteľných častí tela, ako napríklad vlasy, oči alebo oblečenie. Každá časť tela je vytvorená modulárnym spôsobom, ktorý pomáha so serializáciou celého avatara. Teoretická časť tejto práce objasňuje už použité postupy pri dizajne 3D modelov, ich výhody a nevýhody, zatiaľ čo praktická časť sa zaoberá dizajnovaním modulárneho 3D avatara, miestnosti v Blenderi a vytváraním demo aplikácie pre VR umožňujúcu personalizáciu avatara v hernom engine Unity pre prispôsobenie avatara.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the design of 3D models for representing the human form in VR applications. A developer can import the avatar assets such as models, scripts, or textures to a Unity project and use them for developing a custom social VR application. One of the assets is also a demo scene which shows an example use of the avatar customization assets. The scene demonstrates how a user can create a unique avatar with a range of customizable body parts such as hair, eyes, or clothes. Each body part is made in a modular principle that helps with the serialization of the whole avatar. The theoretical part of this thesis describes already used practices in designing 3D models, their advantages and disadvantages, whereas the practical part focuses on designing a modular 3D avatar, a room in Blender, and creating a VR Customization Demo in Unity game engine for the avatar customization.
