Study of mechanical properties of multilayers exhibiting shape memory behaviour

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focused on the study of multilayered TiNi systems prepared by magnetron sputtering. The first chapter presents theoretical basis of shape memory alloys, their application potential and methods of preparation. Afterwards the principle of the deposition technique and analytical methods are described. The second chapter contains experimental section which is divided into two parts. In~the first one, the dependence of mechanical properties of as-deposited multilayers on the thickness of individual layers in the range from 1,7 to 100 nm is studied. The hardness and elastic modulus were measured by nanoindentation, and the results were corroborated with X-ray diffractograms and images from transmission electron microscopy, which served for evaluation of composition and microstructure of multilayers. It was found out that with appropriate layering the multilayered system becoms harder than its own individual component.The second part deals with the description the development of mechanical properties depending on annealing temperature. Structural and surface changes were studied with X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Annealing caused changes in the microstructure of the sample as well as changes on its surface what can~be indicated by results from X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy.

Abstract:

Táto bakalárska práca sa zaoberá multivrstevnatými systémami TiNi pripravenými magnetrónovým naprašovaním. Prvá kapitola predstavuje teoretické základy zliatin s tvarovou pamäťou, ich aplikačný potenciál a metódy prípravy. Ďalej je popísaný princíp použitej depozičnej techniky a analyzačných metód. Obsahom druhej kapitoly je experimentálna časť rozdelená do dvoch častí. V prvej je študovaná závislosť mechanických vlastností as-deposited multivrstiev na hrúbke jednotlivých vrstiev od 1,7 do 100 nm. Meraná bola tvrdosť a modul pružnosti získaný pomocou nanoindentácie, pričom výsledky sú podložené difraktogramami z röntgenovej difrakčnej analýzy a snímkami z transmisného elektrónového mikroskopu, ktorými bolo analyzované zloženie a~štruktúra multivrstiev. Dospelo sa k záveru, že vhodne zvoleným vrstvením je výsledná multivrstva tvrdšia ako jej samotné stavebné prvky.Druhá časť sa zaoberá popisom vývoja mechanických vlastností multivrstiev v závislosti na teplote žíhania. Štrukturálne a povrchové zmeny boli študované röntgenovou dirakčnou analýzou, riadkovacou elektrónovou mikroskopiou a mikroskopiou atomárnych síl. Pri žíhaní došlo k zmenám v mikroštruktúre vzorky a tiež na jej povrchu, o čom nasvedčujú výsledky z röntgenovej difrakčnej analýzy a riadkovacej elektrónovej mikroskopie.
