Regional competitiveness in the EU27 and its determinants

Abstract:

Cílem práce je změřit vývoj regionální konkurenceschopnosti v Evropské unii v letech 2000-2010 a klasifikovat regiony NUTS 2 podle vývoje zaměstnanosti, ekonomické výkonnosti a odvětvové struktury ve sledovaném období. První část práce definuje základní teoretické pojmy a jejich souvislosti přispívající k relevantnímu objasnění pojmu konkurenceschopnosti. Ve druhé části je popsána metodika, na jejímž základě bylo provedeno samotné hodnocení regionální konkurenceschopnosti regionů NUTS 2. V empirické části byla nejprve hospodářská vyspělost regionů EU analyzována prostřednictvím komparace ukazatelů HDP na obyvatele v paritě kupní síly a míry zaměstnanosti, následně byla vytvořena klasifikace vývoje konkurenceschopnosti regionů na základě dynamiky vývoje HDP, zaměstnanosti a odvětvové struktury hospodářství dle metody z článku Affuso, Capello a Fratesi (2011): "Globalization and Competitive Strategies in European Vulnerable Regions". Důraz je kladen na určení pozice regionů v nových členských zemích a jejich srovnání s regiony EU 15.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to measure the course of a regional competitiveness in the European Union in years 2000 and 2010 and to classify regions NUTS 2 according to the process of an employment, an economic performance and a sectoral structure during the monitored period. The first part defines basic theoretical terms and their links contributing to the relevant clarification of the term competitiveness. The second part describes the methodology which leads to an evaluation of a regional regions? competitiveness NUTS 2. In the empirical part was the economic development of the EU regions analysed by a comparison of GDP per capita with a purchasing power and a rate or employment first, followed by a classification of a development of a regional competitiveness based on the dynamics of GDP process, an employment and a sectoral structure of the economy according to a method of the article Affuso, Capello a Fratesi (2011): "Globalization and Competitive Strategies in European Vulnerable Regions". The emphasis is placed on a determination of the regions? position in the new EU member countries in comparison to the regions of the EU 15.
