Disinfection and sterilization in the university hospital with a focus on the disinfection program and selected procedures for nurses

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on disinfection and sterilization in outpatients and in the departments in Fakultná Nemocnica Agel Skalica a.s. This topic is very important, especially for the hospital and the medical staff, in order to prevent the emergence of pathogens and the transmission of various infections. In the theoretical part of the thesis, we learn about the concepts of disinfection, sterilization and their categorization, types of epidemic spread, hand precautions, and sterilization methods. A questionnaire survey was conducted among the hospital staff to find out the staff's knowledge about disinfection. A disinfection program was developed for the hospital, with instructions on the dilution of disinfectants and guidelines, and procedures for carrying out disinfection for nurses. The disinfection program includes the disinfection used in all departments of the hospital in 2021 and 2022, rules for the preparation of the disinfection solution, tables for dilution of disinfectants, safety when working with disinfectants, the principles of disinfectant rotation. Furthermore, guidelines and procedures for nurses and medical assistants working in the departments at the University Hospital Agel Skalica, a.s. have been created. These are operating procedures in hand hygiene, practical instructions for the preparation of injections, and principles of the hygienic and epidemiological regime in the laundry collection department.

Abstract:

Rigorózna práca je zameraná na dezinfekciu a sterilizáciu v ambulanci- ách a na oddeleniach vo fakultnej nemocnici Agel Skalica, a.s. Táto téma je veľmi dôležitá hlavne pre nemocnicu a zdravotnícky personál, aby sa mohlo predchádzať vznikom patogénov a prenosom rôznych infekcii. Teoretická časť sa venuje dezinfekcii, sterilizácii a ich rozdeleniu, typom šírenia epidémie, preventívnemu opatreniu rúk a metódam sterilizácie. Bolo urobené dotazníkové šetrenie medzi pracovníkmi nemocnice s cieľom zistenia poznatkov zamestnancov o dezinfekcii. Ďalej bol v rámci práce vytvorený dezinfekčný program upotrebiteľný nemocnicou, s ná- vodom riedenia dezinfekčných prostriedkov a návody, postupy vykoná- vania dezinfekcie pre zdravotné sestry. Dezinfekčný program obsahuje používanú dezinfekciu na všetkých oddeleniach danej nemocnice v roku 2021 a 2022, pravidlá pre prípravu dezinfekčného roztoku, tabuľky ried- enia dezinfekčných prostriedkov, bezpečnosť pri práci s dezinfekčnými prostriedkami, zásady striedania dezinfekčných prostriedkov. Ďalej boli vytvorené návody a postupy pre zdravotné sestry, zdravotných asisten- tov, ktorí pracujú na oddeleniach vo fakultnej nemocnici Agel Skalica, a.s. Jedná sa o: pracovné postupy v hygiene rúk, praktické pokyny na prí- pravu injekcií, zásady hygienicko – epidemiologického režimu na oddelení zberňa bielizne.
