The importance of sensory activities in occupation therapy for clients with Alzheimer´s disease

Abstract:

Úvod Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na nefarmakologické přístupy v ergoterapii, ovlivnění psychického a fyzického stavu klientky v pokročilém stádiu Alzheimerovy choroby a zlepšení jejího vnímání, spolupráce a komunikace. V teoretické části jsou vysvětleny pojmy demence, Alzheimerova choroba a její projevy, bazální a smyslové stimulace a jejich působení na lidský organizmus. V hlavní části je popsána práce s klientkou ve 2. až 3. stádiu Alzheimerovy choroby, byla provedena vstupní a výstupní ergoterapeutická vyšetření pro zjištění úrovně ADL, IADL, MMSE, dále byla zjišťována schopnost, úroveň a možnosti komunikace a ovlivnění nálady. Byl navržen krátkodobý ergoterapeutický plán a na základě výstupního vyšetření dlouhodobý ergoterapeutický plán. Výsledky jsou zpracovány formou případové studie. Cíle práce Cílem bakalářské práce je přispět k řešení dané problematiky v oblasti smyslových aktivizací v ergoterapii u klientů s onemocněním demence. Dalším cílem bylo přispět prostřednictvím vlastní ergoterapeutické intervence ke zlepšení celkového vnímání klientky a její schopnosti komunikace s okolím a ovlivnit pozitivně kvalitu jejího života. Metody Metody práce jsou založeny na analýze získaných dat, pozorování, testování, rozhovoru a zpracování případové studie. Výsledky Úspěšnost ergoterapeutické intervence je zhodnocena pomocí vstupního a výstupního ergoterapeutického vyšetření. Diskuse a závěr Zamyšlení se nad nefarmakologickými přístupy v modifikované ergoterapii u klientů s demencí a jejich využitím v praxi. Zhodnocení výsledků a možnosti rozšíření ergoterapeutické intervence o nové přístupy v oblasti péče o nemocné s demencí.

Abstract:

Introduction In this thesis, I focused on the factors influencing the mental and physical welfare of people in advanced Alzheimer´s disease and improving their perception, cooperation and communication. The theoretical part explains the concepts of dementia, Alzheimer's disease and its manifestations, basal and sensory stimulation and their effects on the human organism. In the main part is described the work with the client in the second and third stages of Alzheimer's disease. Input and output ergotherapeutic examinations for ADL, IADL, MMSE, own tests for communication and mood impairment were performed. A short-term ergotherapy plan has been proposed and an optimal long-term ergo-therapeutic plan based on the outcome examination. The results are processed in a case study.In the teoretical part I explain the concepts of dementia, Alzheimer´s disease and its manifestation, basal and sensory stimulation and their effects on the human body. In the main part I describe the work with the client in the 3rd stage of Alzheimer´s disease, I have performed entrance and exit occupations examinations for ADL level, MMSE, furthermore, the ability, level and possibilities of communication and influencing mood. I proposed a short-term occupational therapy plan and an long-term occupational therapy plan based on an outpatient examination. The results were processed in the form of a case study. The aim of this thesis is to contribute to the solution ofgiven problems in the area of sensory activation in occupational therapy in clients with dementia disease. Another goal was to contribute to the overall perception of the client and her ability to communicate with the environment and to positively influence her quality of life through her / her own occupation intervention. Methods Methods of work are based on analysis of acquired data, observation, testing, interview and processing of case study. Results The success of an occupational intervention is evaluated by the entry and exit occupational examination. Discussion and conclusion Reflection on non-pharmacological approaches in modified occupational therapy in clients with dementia and their use in practice. Evaluation of results and possibilities of extending the occupational intervention by new approaches in the care of patients with dementia.
