Nurses' attitudes towards practising nursing students in clinical setting

Abstract:

Záměrem této bakalářské práce a zároveň jedním z cílů bylo zjistit spokojenost sester se spoluprací se studenty ošetřovatelství v prostředí klinické praxe. Spokojenost sester se studenty vycházela ze šesti posuzovaných oblastí, a to z hodnocení kvality ošetřovatelských výkonů provedených studenty, z postoje sester vůči teoretickým znalostem a praktickým dovednostem studentů, z hodnocení úpravy studentů na praxi a z pohledu sester na chování studentů vůči pacientům a personálu. Dalšími cíli bylo porovnat výsledky spokojenosti sester se studenty mezi sestrami pracujícími na interním a na chirurgickém oddělení a zjistit nejčastější potíže při spolupráci sester se studenty. Všech cílů bylo dosaženou kvantitativní výzkumnou metodou formou dotazníkového šetření a následnou analýzou výsledků. Bylo zjištěno, že sestry jsou spíše spokojeny s úrovní teoretických znalostí a praktických dovedností studentů i s kvalitou jejich provedených výkonů. Většina sester také pozitivně pohlíží na chování studentů k pacientům a personálu i na to, jak chodí studenti na praktickou výuku upraveni. Ve jmenovaných oblastech hodnotily studenty lépe převážně sestry pracující na interním oddělení. Nejčastějšími zjištěnými problémy se studenty byl jejich nezájem a vyhýbání se práci a chyby způsobené neznalostí. Teoretická část, rozdělená do tří kapitol, se v první z nich věnuje sestrám, kde je popisován vývoj povolání až po dnešní možnosti uplatnění v oboru. Druhá kapitola pojednává o vývoji vzdělávání v ošetřovatelství až do současného stavu možností se v ošetřovatelství vzdělávat. Klinickou ošetřovatelskou praxí, jejím prostředím a mentorováním se zabývá kapitola poslední.

Abstract:

The notion and one of the aims of this bachelor's thesis was to ascertain nurses' satisfaction in cooperating with nursing students in clinical setting. The nurses' satisfaction with the students was based on six considered areas, namely the quality evaluation of the nursing procedures performed by the nursing students, the nurses' attitudes towards the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the students, the assessment of the students' attire during practise and the nurses' view of the students' behaviour towards patients and staff. Our other goals were to compare the results of nurses' satisfaction with the students among the nurses working in internal medicine departments and surgical departments and to find the most common difficulties nurses' face when cooperating with students. All our aims were achieved by a quantitative research method in the form of a questionnaire survey and subsequent analysis of the results. We found out that nurses are rather satisfied with the level of theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the students and also with the quality of procedures performed by students. Most nurses also positively looks upon the students' behaviour towards patients and staff and their attire during practical lessons. The nurses working in the internal medicine departments gave students mostly better evaluations in chosen areas. The most commonly found problems with students were their lack of interest, their work avoidance and mistakes caused by ignorance. The theoretical part, divided into three chapters, where the first one characterises nurses, describing the history of the profession up to today's possibilities in the field. The second chapter describes the progress of nursing education up to the present state of opportunities in nursing education. The clinical nursing practise, its environment and mentoring are described in the last chapter.
