Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou projevů George W. Bushe před intervencí v Iráku roku 2003. Cílem této práce je definovat, zda z pohledu Teorie spravedlivé války, přesněji kritérií Jus ad bellum, je možné kriticky zhodnotit projevy G. W. Bushe a definovat, zdaje či není, z pohledu toho, co je explicitně řečeno, intervence v Iráku 2003 ospravedlnitelná. Kritéria použité k analýze projevů jsou: Oprávněný důvod, oprávněná autorita, spravedlivý záměr, poslední možnost a přiměřenost. Pomocí těchto kategorií jsem došel k závěru, že samotné projevy nejsou v konfliktu (až na jeden jediný případ) s Teorií spravedlivé války. Největším úskalím je fakt, že výroky jsou předem napsány a schváleny, a proto zde nejde určit pravý záměr této intervence, pokud je jiný, než se uvádí v projevech. Z hlediska metodologie má tato práce charakter kvalitativní obsahové analýzy, přičemž je použita diskurzivní analýza. Ta je zastřešujícím pojmem pro přístupy zabývající se rolí jazyka při konstrukci sociální reality. Z metodologického hlediska diskurzivní analýza zahrnuje systematické postupy sběru, transkripce a analýzy kvalitativních dat, především verbální interakce a psané texty.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis analyzes George W. Bush's speeches prior to the 2003 intervention in Iraq. The aim of this thesis is to define whether or not, from the perspective of Just War Theory, more specifically the Jus ad bellum criteria, it is possible to critically evaluate G. W. Bush's speeches and define whether or not, in light of what is explicitly stated, the 2003 intervention in Iraq is justified. The criteria used to analyze the speeches are: just cause, legitimate authority, just intent, last resort, and reasonableness. Using these categories, I conclude that the speeches themselves do not conflict (except in one single instance) with Just War Theory. The biggest pitfall is the fact that the speeches are pre-written and approved, and therefore there is no way to determine the true intent of the intervention if it is different than what is stated in the speeches. In terms of methodology, this thesis is a qualitative content analysis using discursive analysis. The latter is an overarching term for approaches that address the role of language in the construction of social reality. Methodologically, discursive analysis involves systematic procedures for collecting, transcribing and analysing qualitative data, primarily verbal interactions and written texts.
