Analysis of productivity electricity suppliers in the liberalized electricity market

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá problematiku deregulace elektroenergetického odvětví, která v České republice započala v roce 2002. Na základě unbundlingu a vzniku nových firem byla provedena analýza produktivity dodavatelů elektřiny (překupníků elektrické energie). Vliv strategií na produktivitu se podařilo prokázat pouze částečně. Z výsledků regresní analýzy postavené na panelových datech za roky 2003 až 2012 pro 58 společností vyplývá, že strategie orientující se na maloodběratele je v průměru o 1,7 % méně produktivní než strategie zahrnující velkoodběratele i maloodběratele. Strategie orientovaná na velkoodběratele vyšla statisticky nevýznamná. Také se podařilo prokázat, že pokud nabízí firma ve svém portfoliu plyn i elektřinu, má v průměru vyšší produktivitu práce o 1 %. Ta je též vyšší, pokud se jedná o firmu působící na trhu s elektřinou před deregulací, konkrétně o 2,5 %. Zároveň výsledky potvrzují závěry předchozí studie ve Velké Británii, efekty deregulace na produktivitu mají nejdříve negativní dopad a po určitém čase působí pozitivně.

Abstract:

This paper discusses the issue of deregulation of the electricity industry. The aim is to analyze productivity of electricity suppliers. The dataset consists of annual data from 58 companies over the time span of 11 years. Systematic relationship between different key strategies and labor productivity has been proven. The results show that on average strategy focusing on retail customers is 1.7 % less productive than a strategy involving wholesale and retail customers. The strategy focused on wholesale is statistically not significant. It has been proven that if the company has in its portfolio supply of gas and electricity the productivity will increase by 1 %. If there is a company operating in the electricity market before deregulation, productivity is on average higher by 2.5 %. The results indicate compliance with previous deregulation studies that the effects of deregulation have a negative impact on productivity and after some time there is a positive trend development.
