Changes in Sex Education: The Mid-20th Century vs. Present

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou sexuální výchovy a jejím vývojem od padesátých let dvacátého století po počátek dvacátého prvního století. Prostřednictvím diskursivní analýzy zkoumá dvě publikace pocházející z uvedeného období, které následně srovnává, aby mohla určit, zda a k jakému posunu došlo během padesáti let. Teoretická část se vychází z poststrukturalistické teorie a dekonstruktivistické teorie se zaměřením na teorii performativity genderu. Kromě toho se teoretická část práce věnuje procesu ustavování sexuality od 17. století, aby tím objasnila širší souvislosti ve vývoji nahlížení na sexualitu. Práce se zabývá i otázkou disciplinace lidského těla a sociálnímu konstruování lidského těla. Teoretický oddíl práce se věnuje i normám a deviacím, přičemž se zaměřuje heteronormativitu. V poslední části teorie je představena současná sexuální výchova a její hlavní zdroje: škola, média, rodina a vrstevníci. Praktická část se věnuje analýze obou publikací. Nejdříve definuje existující diskurzy v knihách, které poté analyzuje a srovnává. Dochází k závěru, že ačkoliv se společnost během padesáti let značně proměnila, některé standardy zůstaly zachovány a neustále se reprodukují dále, a spolu s nimi i disciplinace. Naproti tomu ale ustupuje heteronormativní ideál, který tím uvolňuje místo minoritním sexualitám.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of sex education and its development from The Mid-20th Century to the beginning of 21st Century. The research method is Discourse Analysis. The thesis explores two publications that originate from these periods. These publications are under comparison to show if there was any progress and what it was like. The theory is based on poststructuralism and deconstructivism oriented on the theory of performative acts. The theory also deals with the process of sex establishing since 17st Century to clarify wider context of sex opinion. The thesis devotes to human body discipline and social construction of human body. The theory notifies about norms and deviations with focus on heteronormativity. The last part of theory introduces present sex education and its main sources: school, media, family and friends. The practical part of the thesis analyses both publications. First of all there are defined existing discourses in the books that are analyzed and comprised. The thesis concludes that some standards in the society are still the same however the society is changing during last 50 years. The disciplination is still reproduced. The ideal of heteronormativity is moving back to gives more place to sex minorities.
