Tax burden of cigarettes in EU countries

Abstract:

Ve své bakalářské práci se zabývám zdaněním cigaret ve 25 členských státech Evropské unie. Součástí práce je popis harmonizačního procesu v oblasti daní ze spotřeby u cigaret, analýza struktury ceny, vyhodnocení a interpretace zjištěných výsledků. Hlavním cílem je vyhodnotit míru daňového zatížení ceny vybrané značky cigaret daněmi ze spotřeby. Vedlejším cílem je vyhodnotit, zda členské státy splňují kritéria obsažená v tabákových směrnicích EU.Závěrem bakalářské práce je zjištění, že ve všech 25 státech Evropské unie je míra daňového zatížení ceny cigaret Marlboro daněmi ze spotřeby více jak 70 %, přičemž průměrné daňové zatížení ceny cigaret Marlboro daněmi ze spotřeby činí 77 %. Druhým závěrem je zjištění, že všechny státy Evropské unie splňují kritéria obsažená v tabákových směrnicích EU, pokud nemají výjimku v rámci přechodného období.

Abstract:

In my bachelor thesis I deal with cigarette taxation in twenty-five Member States of the European Union. Part of the work is harmonization process in the field of consumption tax on cigarettes, price structure analysis, evaluation and interpretation of the found results. The main purpose is to evaluate the tax burden of the price of chosen cigarettes on consumption taxes. The secondary purpose is to evaluate if the member states of the EU comply with the criteria contained in the Tobacco directive of the EU. Conclusion of the bachelor thesis is a finding that in all of the twenty-five states of the EU is rate of the tax burden of the Marlboro cigarette price on consumption taxes more than 70%, where average tax burden of the Marlboro cigarette price on consumption taxes is 77%. Second conclusion is a finding that all of the states of the EU comply with the criteria contained in the Tobacco directive of the EU, if they do not have an exception in terms of a transitional period.
