Connection between mindfulness and identity in emerging adulthood

Abstract:

Cílem této práce bylo prozkoumat vztah mezi všímavostí a identitou v období vynořující se dospělosti. Pomocí korelačního výzkumu byla zjišťována souvislost míry všímavosti a jednotlivých statusů identity, konkrétně moratoria a předčasně uzavřené identity. V práci jsou nejprve dopodrobna rozebraná teoretická východiska a možná vysvětlení zapojených procesů. Všímavost je zde pojímána jako určitý aspekt vědomí a měřena pomocí Five Facets Mindfulness Questionnaire. Statusy identity, koncept definovaný Marciou, byly zjišťovány pomocí upravené verze dotazníku Extended Version if Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status. Výzkumu se účastnilo celkem 153 respondentů ve věku 18-30 let. Na základě analýz se nepodařilo potvrdit předpoklady, že všímavost pozitivně koreluje se statusem moratoria a negativně koreluje se statusem předčasně uzavřené identity. Byl však prokázán negativní signifikantní vztah všímavosti a moratoria, tedy vztah opačný, než jaký předpokládala první hypotéza. Výsledky studie jsou diskutovány s ohledem na období vynořující se dospělosti, v němž hraje utváření identity velice významnou roli.

Abstract:

The goal of this work was examined the relation between mindfulness and identity in emerging adulthood. The corelation study was used to determine connection between rate of mindfulness and individual identity statuses, specifically the moratorium and prematurely closed identity. First there is described theoretical background in detail and possible explanations for the processes involved. The concept of mindfulness is presented as an aspect of perception and it is measured by Five Facets Mindfulness Questionnaire. The identity status, concept defined by Marcia, was determined thanks to modified version of questionnaire Ex-tended Version if Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status. There were 153 participants in the age from 18 till 30 years. The analysis didn’t confirm the assumptions that mindfulness positively correlated with status of moratorium and negatively correlated with status of prematurely closed identity. The relation was found between mindfulness and moratorium. It is negative significant relation which is opposite relation than the first hypothesis supposed. The results of the study are discussed for period of emerging adulthood in which the identity plays very important role.
