Information Ethic: Conventional Media versus New Media

Abstract:

Média jsou již téměř nedílnou součástí našich životů, pro Evropana jedenadvacátého století je takřka nemožné se jim dlouhodobě vyhýbat. Média nás informují, formují, mnohdy zásadně ovlivňují. Počínají si při tom eticky? Jak jsou stanovena morální pravidla pro média? Jakou roli v procesu informování hraje informační etika a co vlastně je? A mají v současné společnosti vůbec etická pravidla místo a smysl, nebo jsou pouhým přežitkem? Diplomová práce Informační etika: tradiční versus nová média se na tyto otázky snaží nalézt odpovědi. Přibližuje etiku jako takovou, její členění, historii, a základní etické přístupy, dále charakterizuje jednotlivá média a vysvětluje rozdíly mezi nimi. Upozorňuje na význam informační etiky, podává stručný přehled zákonů souvisejících s informační etikou, přibližuje profesní kodexy, zabývá se jejich reálnými účinky. Zvláštní pozornost přitom věnuje zacházení s informační etikou v případě nových médií a všímá si rozdílů v podávání informace tradičními a novými médii. Současně poukazuje na rizika, jenž s sebou nesou moderní technologie a varuje tak před hrozbami, které společnosti hrozí a které by pomohla zmírnit informační etika.

Abstract:

Media are an integral part of our lives. It is nearly impossible to avoid them for a long period of time. Media inform us, form us and influence us fundamentally. Are they ethical? Are there any established rules for media? What is the role of information ethics in the process of communication? What exactly is information ethics? Do ethics rules have a place and importance in contemporary society or have they only become an anachronism? The diploma thesis „Information Ethic: Conventional Media versus New Media“ attemps to give answers for the above placed questions. It defines ethics itself, its structure, history and basic ethics principles. The thesis characterizes different types of media and describes the differences among them. The thesis draws the attention to the significance of information ethics, it provides a short summary of laws related to information ethics, it gives an introduction to professional codices and deals with their real effects. A special attention is given to the treatment of information ethics in new media and the differences in reporting between the new and the conventional media are described. The diploma thesis also points out the risks related to the new media in the combination with modern technology. The thesis warns against the consequent threats to society which can be reduced if information ethics is appropriately applied.
