Development of urban structure mining towns in Horní Slavkov and Jáchymov

Abstract:

Diplomová práce mapuje změny urbanistické struktury dvou horních měst v Karlovarském kraji, zejména po roce 1945. Zájmovými územími jsou Horní Slavkov, ležící ve Slavkovském lese a Jáchymov, který se rozkládá v nedalekých Krušných horách. Obě lokality byly formovány již od středověku těžbou rud, následně pak byly poznamenány bouřlivými událostmi druhé poloviny 20. století. Teoretická část práce obsahuje shrnutí dosavadního stavu bádání a srovnání proměny urbanistické struktury obou lokalit. V praktické části byla zhodnocena zástavba obou horních měst z hlediska dochovaného památkového potenciálu a zmapována a zhodnocena zaniklá zástavba na základě archivních pramenů. Na závěr práce obsahuje patřičné shrnutí problematiky a nastínění možného východiska, včetně revize památkových zón zájmových území.

Abstract:

This thesis maps the changes of the urban structure of two mining towns in the Karlovy Vary region, focusing primarily on the time period since 1945. The areas of interest are the towns of Horní Slavkov, situated in the Slavkov Forest and Jáchymov, which is situated in the nearby Ore Mountains. Both sites were first established during the Middle Ages as a result of nearby ore mining, and were later shaped by stormy events during the second half of the 20th century. The theoretical part of the thesis contains a summary of the current state of research and a comparison of changes in the urban structure of both localities. In the practical section, the development of both mining towns was evaluated from the point of view of preserved monumental potential and the extinct development has been mapped and evaluated based on archival sources. At the end of the thesis there is an appropriate summary of the issue and outline of possible starting point for future research, including the revision of the historical zones of interest areas.
