Decreasing interest rates in the banking sector

Abstract:

Centrální banky různých zemí (např. Dánsko, Švédsko, Švýcarsko) zavedly záporné úrokové sazby, jiné země k zavedení nepřistoupily. V odborné i vědecké komunitě stále probíhají diskuse o dopadech tohoto kroku. Cílem diplomové práce je analýza dopadů záporných úrokových sazeb ve vybraných zemích. K analýze dopadů záporných úrokových sazeb budou použita data o úrokových sazbách a makroekonomických datech (sledování v čase) zemí Dánska, Švédska a Švýcarska z webu Evropské centrální banky a Eurostatu. Nejprve bude zkoumán vývoj úrokových sazeb v čase u jednotlivých zemí a poté bude provedeno porovnání vývoje sazeb s vývojem inflace, HDP a nezaměstnanosti samostatně v každé zemi. V rámci popisné statistiky zpracuji data do grafů a doplním je o základní statistické výpočty. Dále budu na základě analýzy (srovnání vývoje mezi vybranými zeměmi) zjišťovat, jestli je vývoj sazeb a jednotlivých ukazatelů u sledovaných zemí shodný a zda došlo díky zavedení záporné úrokové sazby k podpoře hospodářského růstu.

Abstract:

The central banks of different countries (such as Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland) have implemented negative interest rates, and other countries have not joined. In the professional and scientific community, there are still discussions about the impact of this implementation. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the impact of negative interest rates in selected countries. Data on interest rates and macroeconomic data (tracking time) of Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland from the European Central Bank and Eurostat websites will be used to analyze the impact of negative interest rates. First, the development of interest rates over time in individual countries will be researched, and then the development of interest rates will be compared with the development of inflation, GDP and unemployment separately in each country. Within descriptive statistics, I will process data into charts and add them to the basic statistical calculations. Based on the analysis (comparison of the development among the selected countries) I will determine whether the development of interest rates and individual indicators in the monitored countries is the same and whether it was due to the implementation of a negative interest rate to support economic growth.
