Monitoring of the structural changes of the nickel hydroxide during charge/discharge process by using of thermal analysis

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá sledováním strukturních změn při cyklování ?- a ?-hydroxidu nikelnatého pomocí metody TG-DSC. Byl sledován vliv nadbytku NaOH, přídavku kobaltu a způsobu sráţení na termické a elektrochemické vlastnosti ?-Ni(OH)2. V případě ?-Ni(OH)2 byl sledován vliv stabilizačního aditiva (hliníku a manganu) na termické a elektrochemické chování. Z dostupných odborných publikací byly také vybrány postupy preparací ?- a ?-Ni(OH)2, produkty byly podrobeny termické analýze a srovnány s výsledky dané literatury. Konkrétně bylo zjištěno, ţe termická analýza můţe podat informace jak o typu modifikace hydroxidu nikelnatého, tak o působení aditiv na termickou stabilitu. Bylo prokázáno, ţe cyklované hmoty jsou méně termicky stabilní neţ necyklované a přítomnost nečistot, pravděpodobně síranů, zvyšuje termickou stabilitu materiálu.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the structural changes of ?- and ?-nickel hydroxide during charge/discharge process by using of TG-DSC method. An influence of NaOH excess, cobalt and way of precipitation on the thermal and the electrochemical properties of ?-Ni(OH)2 was monitored. In the case of ?-Ni(OH)2 an influence of stabilization dope (aluminum and manganese) on the thermal and the electrochemical behavior was monitored. The preparation of ?- a ?-Ni(OH)2 was chosen from the specialized publications, the products were characterized via thermal analysis and compared with the publicated data. It was found that thermal analysis can provide information on both type modification of nickel hydroxide and action of dopes on thermal stability. It was proved that active materials after charge/discharge process are less thermal stable than materials before charge/discharge process. The presence of impurity, probably sulfate ions, increases thermal stability of the material.
