Identity formation of young women working on erotic videochat: empiric research from the period of emerging adulthood

Abstract:

Tématem předkládané studie je práce na erotickém videochatu a utváření identity u mladých žen, které se tomuto zaměstnání věnují. Věk respondentek, jež se výzkumu zúčastnily se pohybuje v rozmezí 19-24 let, studie je tedy zasazena do vývojového období vynořující se dospělosti (emerging adulthood). Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a výzkumnou. V teoretické části vymezuji koncept identity a popisuji jednotlivé přístupy k jejímu zkoumání. Popisuji základní specifika vývojové etapy vynořující se dospělosti, podrobně se zabývám jeho důležitou charakteristikou zkoumání identity. V poslední části přibližuji princip erotického videochatu, zmiňuji specifika internetové komunikace a uvažuji nad možnými důvody, které vedou k rozmachu této práce v České republice a nad jejími možnými riziky. Cílem kvalitativní studie bylo zjistit, jakou roli hraje práce na erotickém videochatu v utváření identity mladých žen, které na erotickém videochatu pracují. Pomocí metody vytváření trsů analyzuji rozhovory, které jsem provedla se sedmi dívkami, které tuto práci vykonávají. Rozhovory byly zaměřeny především na partnerské vztahy, plány do budoucnosti, sebedefinování a sebehodnocení respondentek, a také na prožitky spojené s prací na erotickém videochatu. Ve výzkumu bylo zjištěno, že práce na erotickém videochatu má vliv na utváření identity dívek, které zde pracují, zvyšuje jejich sebevědomí a dodává jim pocit nezávislosti. Většina respondentek má již jasnou představu o svém budoucím zaměstnání, pouze jedna se hodlá i nadále věnovat povolání v oblasti erotických služeb.

Abstract:

The subject of this study is the work on the on-line erotic videochat and the identity formation of the young girls that it perform. The age of the interviewed young women were between 19-24 years thus the work is set to the developing age of the emerging adulthood. The study is divided into two parts: the theory and the research. The former part determines the identity concepts and describes the individual approaches of its research. The part defines the basic specifics of the emerging adulthood along with important characteristic of the identity search. In the concluding part of the theory the basic principles of erotic videochat are described and the basic specifics of the internet communication are mentioned. I ponder the possible reasons that lead to the development of this type of work in the Czech Republic and consequently its possible perils. The purpose of qualitative study was to discover what role has working on erotic videochat on identity forming of young women that it perform. This part was based on the interview with seven different girls working as erotic online videochat workers. Interviews were analyzed using the cluster method and were aimed to answer mostly the questions relating to the partnership, future, self - definition and the experience related to the work on the erotic online chat. The study demonstrates that the erotic videochat work affects the identity formation of women, increases the self-confidence and provides the feel of the independence. Nearly all of my my respondents have already had a clear idea of their future careers, only one girl wants to work in the field of erotic service in the future.
