Coping with stressful situations in the period of established adulthood

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce je zvládání zátěžových situací u zakotvených dospělých. První kapitola teoretické části zahrnuje přehled a charakteristiky vývojového období zakotvené dospělosti. Zabývá se také porovnáním zakotvené dospělosti s časnou a pozdní dospělostí. Druhá kapitola teoretické části se věnuje tématu zátěže a stresu, jaké bývají zdroje zátěže a typy stresových situací. Třetí kapitola se zabývá strategiemi zvládání, efektivitou těchto strategií, faktory a zdroji zvládání. Výzkumná část bakalářské práce je zaměřena na zkoumání preferencí strategií zvládání zakotvenými dospělými a vnímání jejich efektivity, také na zjištění rozdílů mezi preferencemi strategií zvládání v porovnání podle pohlaví a podle toho, zda respondenti mají děti nebo nemají. Prováděný výzkum byl také zaměřen na zjištění preferencí strategií zvládání ve vztahu k jednotlivým kategoriím stresových situací, které byly rozděleny podle životních oblastí, a na zjištění míry vnímaného stresu. Vzorek kvantitativního výzkumu byl tvořen 81 respondenty pocházejícími z České republiky. Do výzkumu se zapojilo 64 žen a 17 mužů ve věku od 30 do 45 let. Na základě výsledků provedeného výzkumu bylo zjištěno, že existuje pozitivní souvislost mezi preferencemi zvládacích strategií a jejich považováním za efektivní (PFC a PFCf (r = 0.808), EFC a EFCf (r = 0.670), AC a ACf (r = 0.524). Bylo také zjištěno, že čím vyšší je míra vnímaného stresu u zakotvených dospělých, tím častěji zakotvení dospělí preferují vyhýbavé strategie zvládání (PS a AC (r = 0,610). V preferenci strategií zvládání mezi ženami a muži v zakotvené dospělosti nebyl zjištěn významný rozdíl (p > 0,05). Byl zjištěn významný rozdíl v preferencích strategií zvládání zaměřených na emoce u lidí s dětmi a bez dětí (p < 0,05). Zakotvení dospělí s dětmi častěji volili strategie popření (M = 4,40) a víry (M = 4,10), zatímco dospělí bez dětí častěji volili strategie přijetí (M = 6,67), ventilace (M = 5,67), emoční podpory (M = 6,36) a rozptýlení (M = 6,09). V rámci studie bylo také zjištěno, že u zakotvených dospělých nejčastěji vznikají stresové situace v životních oblastech jako je kariéra, finance (N = 25) a zdraví (N = 17). V oblasti kariéry a financí byly preferovanými strategiemi zvládání aktivní coping (M = 6,76) a plánování (M = 6,96), zatímco v oblasti zdraví byly preferovanými strategiemi aktivní coping (M = 6,94) a přijetí (M = 6,71).

Abstract:

The topic of the bachelor thesis is the management of stressful situations in established adults. The first chapter of the theoretical part includes an overview and characteristics of the developmental period of established adulthood. It also deals with comparing established adulthood to early and late adulthood. The second chapter of the theoretical part focuses on the topic of stress and stressors, what the sources of stress are, and the types of stressful situations. The third chapter deals with coping strategies, the effectiveness of these strategies, factors, and sources of coping. The research part of the bachelor thesis is focused on examining the preferences of coping strategies by established adults and their perception of their effectiveness, as well as determining differences in coping strategy preferences by gender and whether respondents have children or not. The conducted research was also aimed at identifying preferences for coping strategies in relation to individual categories of stressful situations, which were divided according to life domains, and at assessing the perceived level of stress. The sample of the quantitative research consisted of 81 respondents from the Czech Republic. 64 women and 17 men between the ages of 30 and 45 participated in the research. Based on the results of the conducted research, it was found that there is a positive correlation between coping strategy preferences and their perceived effectiveness (PFC and PFCf (r = 0.808), EFC and EFCf (r = 0.670), AC and ACf (r = 0.524). It was also found that the higher the level of perceived stress among established adults, the more frequently they prefer avoidant coping strategies (PS and AC (r = 0,610). No significant difference was found in coping strategy preferences between women and men in established adulthood (p > 0,05). A significant difference was found in the preferences for emotion-focused coping strategies between adults with children and without children (p < 0,05). Established adults with children more frequently chose denial (M = 4,40) and religion (M = 4,10) strategies, while adults without children more frequently chose acceptance (M = 6,67), venting (M = 5,67), emotional support (M = 6,36), and self-distraction (M = 6,09) strategies. The study also found that stress situations most commonly arise among established adults in life areas such as career, finances (N = 25) and health (N = 17). In the career and finance areas, active coping (M = 6,76) and planning (M = 6,96) were preferred coping strategies, while in the health area, active coping (M = 6,94) and acceptance (M = 6,71) were preferred strategies.
