The Influence of the Electoral System on the Party System: a Case Study of Italy after 1945

Abstract:

Cílem práce je analyzovat vliv změn volebního systému na stranický systém v Itálii od druhé světové války do současnosti. Student bude metodologicky postupovat následovně. V první části představí teoretické východisko práce. Jsou zde vysvětleny Duvergerovy a Sartoriho zákony, které se zabývají účinky volebního systému na podobu stranického systému. Tyto zákony jsou doplněny pohledem dalšího autora, Dietera Nohlena.V následující části se student zabývá typem poměrného volebního zákona, který byl v Itálii používán v letech 1945 – 1993. Zkoumá jeho vliv na stranický systém a aplikuje zákony z teoretické části práce. Poměrný volební systém byl v roce 1993 nahrazen smíšeným typem volebního systému, kterému se věnuje třetí část práce. Dále je zde vysvětlena podoba stranického systému a aplikovány dané zákony autorů.V posledním oddílu student představí volební systém, který byl zaveden v roce 2005. Bude se dále zabývat současným stranickým systémem a aplikovat dané zákony.Závěrem práce bude ověření platnosti zákonů z teoretického východiska práce.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor‘s thesis is to analyse the influence of the electoral system on the party system in Italy after 1945. The student will proceed as follows.In the first part the student will introduce theoretical resources. The theoretical resources will be Duverger’s and Sartori’s rules. These rules examine electoral system effects on the form of party system. These rules will be completed by ideas of another author, Dieter NohlenThe next part deals with proportional electoral system which was used from 1945 – 1993. The thesis will examine its influence of the party system and apply rules from theoretical resources.In the third part the author describes the electoral system which was used between the years 1994 – 2005. The functioning of the party system will be explained here and approaches of the authors will be applied. In last part the student will present the electoral system which was founded in 2005. The author deals with the contemporary party system and applies the rules of the authors.The goal of the very end of this part will be a verification of the force of the law from theoretical resources.
