Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá postavením britsko-indických žen ve společnosti a jejich vyobrazením ve dvou dílech současné briské fikce - Brick Lane Moniky Ali a The Buddha of Suburbia Hanifa Kureishiho. První část práce se zabývá kulturním pozadím a sociálními normami týkajících se žen žijících v Jižní Asii, další část rozebírá postavení žen indického původu žijících ve Velké Británii a zda-li se jejich postavení pod vlivem britské kultury změnilo. V poslední části jsou analyzována literární díla zachycující životní zkušenosti britsko-indických žen.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on status and position of British Indian women in society and their representation in two works of contemporary British fiction - Brick Lane by Monica Ali and The Buddha of Suburbia by Hanif Kureishi. The first part of the thesis examines cultural background and social norms surrounding South Asian women. The next part looks at the status and position of women of South Asian origin living in Britain and whether their position changed under the influence of British culture. The last part analyses the experience of British Indian women living in Britain.
