On the topic of Steampunk fashion in the Czech environment

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je zaměřená na módu členů subkultury steampunk. Steampunk je relativně mladá subkultura, projevující se hlavně typickým vizuálním stylem, který je ve většině případů inspirován viktoriánskou Anglií. Práce popisuje českou variantu subkultury a módu jejích členů. Zdrojem informací o české steampunkové komunitě jsou dotazníky a rozhovory s jejími členy. Autorka zjistila, že steampunkeři se většinou zajímají o více subkultur zároveň, nebo přechází od jedné ke druhé (častá je kombinace se subkulturou gothic). Většina dotazovaných si své kostýmy alespoň částečně vytváří sami, originalita a viktoriánskou módou inspirovaný vzhled jsou pro některé z nich hlavním znakem steampunku. Členové se shodují, že česká komunita je málo početná, což považují za hlavní odlišnost od zahraničních variant steampunku. Existence jedinečnosti české módy ve stylu steampunk nebyla objevena.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the fashion of members of the steampunk subculture. Steampunk is quite young subculture which mainly manifests by distinctive visual style inspired heavily by Victorian England. This thesis describes Czech variation of said subculture and the fashion of its members. The sources of information about the Czech community are questionnaires and interviews with its members. The author found out that the steampunkers are interested in more subcultures at the same time or drift from one to another (in many cases the steampunk subculture is combined with gothic subculture). Most of the interviewees create at least part of their costume themselves, considering the originality and Victorian fashion inspired look as the main sign of steampunk. The members agree that the Czech community is relatively small, which they consider the main difference between the Czech and foreign variations of steampunk. The existence of any uniqueness of the Czech steampunk fashion was not discovered.
