The Influence of Presence of an Individual with Disability In Classroom on the Attitude of Intact Individuals Towards Individuals with Disabilities

Abstract:

Diplomová práce nese název Vliv přítomnosti jedince s postižením ve třídním kolektivu na postoj intaktních jedinců vůči postiženým. Jak z názvu vyplývá, zabývá se problematikou jedinců s postižením, postoji vůči nim a stručně s ní čtenáře seznamuje. Práce vychází z poznatků speciální pedagogiky a psychologie, z nichž jsou využívány co nejaktuálnější zdroje a zahraniční výzkumy. Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a empirickou. Teoretická část je rozčleněna na tři hlavní témata. První část se věnuje termínu postižení, typům a druhům postižení, legislativě a jedincům se SVP na vysokých školách. Druhá část se snaží vysvětlit postoje společnosti vůči postiženým, historický vývoj přístupu k jedincům s postižením a vliv jedince s postižením na třídní kolektiv. Poslední část je věnována inkluzi, vývoji společnosti k inkluzivnímu nastavení, inkluzivním aplikačním modelům a měření inkluze. V empirické části je k testování použit český překlad standardizovaného dotazníku PATHS pro zjištění postojů jedinců vůči různým typům postižení. Cílem je ověřit předpoklad, že postoj intaktních jedinců, kteří mají ve třídním kolektivu jedince s postižením, je pozitivnější než postoj jedinců, kteří jedince s postižením ve třídním kolektivu nemají. Cíl vychází z naší základní hypotézy Intaktní jedinci, kteří mají ve třídním kolektivu jedince s postižením, zaujímají vůči jedincům s postižením pozitivnější postoj než jedinci, kteří postižené ve třídě nemají. Průběh výzkumu spočíval ve vytvoření dotazníku a otestování tří set respondentů. Testování se zúčastnili žáci základních škol a studenti střední školy, kteří byli zvoleni dostupným výběrem. Následně byla nashromážděná data zpracována pomocí nástrojů statistické analýzy. Hypotéza nebyla potvrzena, a proto jsou v diskuzi dále rozebrány psychologické a sociální faktory, které mohly výsledek ovlivnit. V závěru přinášíme zhodnocení výsledků společně s doporučením pro praxi.

Abstract:

As the name of the thesis implies, our study deals with various issues that surround individuals with disabilities, briefly acquaintances the reader with these issues, and also investigates society's attitude towards such individuals. This thesis is based on the results of up-to-date research in special pedagogy and psychology, putting special emphasis on use of studies by foreign researchers. In addition, this thesis is divided into a theoretical and an empirical part. The theoretical part is further divided into three main topics. The first topic deals with the term "disability", different types of disability, legislation and individuals with special education needs (SEN) in universities. Our second topic attempts to explain the attitude of society towards individuals with disabilities, the historical evolution of handling individuals, and the impact of an individual with a disability on others in the classroom. The last part is dedicated to inclusion, the progression of society towards inclusive settings, models of inclusion application and measuring of inclusion. The empirical part uses a Czech translation of a standardized questionnaire PATHS in order to investigate the attitude of individuals towards various types of disability. The aim of this thesis is to verify whether the attitude of intact individuals who have an individual with a disability among their classmates is more favourable than the attitude of individuals who do not have an individual with a disability in the classroom. This assumption is based on our primary hypothesis that intact individuals who have individuals with disabilities in their classroom have a more positive attitude than the intact individuals who do not. Our research consisted of creating a questionnaire and its use to test three hundred respondents. The respondents ranged from primary school students to students of secondary school and were chosen from the available set. The collected data was statistically analysed; however, our hypothesis was not confirmed. For that reason, this thesis further discusses the psychological and social factors, which may have influenced the results. In the conclusion paragraphs, a summary of the conducted research is provided together with recommendations for practices, which can be applied in a classroom setting.
