The social contract theory - points of contact and differences between the concepts of Locke, Rousseau and Hobbes

Abstract:

Tématem této práce je komparace autorů věnujících se teorii společenské smlouvy. Cílem práce bylo vytvoření výstupu v podobě komparace vycházející z předem daných kritérií. Práce měla ukázat na případné rozdíly v rámci teoretických konceptů J. Locka, J. J. Rousseaua a T. Hobbese. Kritéria byla stanovena tak aby byla možná komparace napříč autory. Zohledňují tak otázku majetku, svobody jednotlivce, legitimitu státu a vztah občana a státu. V kritériu soukromého majetku jsou stanoveny atributy v podobě přístupu státu k chudému a bohatému občanu a forma zdanění. Druhé kritérium povinnosti jedince vůči státu zohledňuje povinosti občana vůči státu a podíl občana na rozhodování. Třetím kritériem je svoboda jedince a v rámci toho jsou stanoveny tyto atributy náboženská svoboda a omezení svobody občana spolu s otázkou otroctví. Čtvrtým kritériem je legitimita státu, která v sobě zohledňuje atribut podmínky legitimity státu. Komparativní části předchází krátký úvod do problematiky a historie teorie společenské smlouvy Práce jsou použita pro komparaci základní díla autorů, která se věnují teorii společenské smlouvy a to díla: O společenské smlouvě (Locke), Rozpravy (Rousseau), Leviathan (Hobbes), Druhé pojednání o vládě (Locke) a Dopis o toleranci (Locke).

Abstract:

The toppic of this work is comparison of authors who deal with the theory of social contract. The goal of this work is to create an output in the form of comparison based on established criteria. The work should point out possible differences in the framework of theoretical concepts of J. Locke, J. J. Rousseau and T. Hobbes. The criteria were set so that comparison would be posssible throughout the different author's works. This way, it is accounted for the personal property, freedom of the individual, legitimity of state and relationship between the citizen and the state. In regard to the personal property, the attributes are set in the form of state's approach to poor and wealthy citizens and forms of taxation. Second criterium of the citizen's duty to the state accounts for the duties of the citizen and his part in the process of decision. Third criterium is the freedom of the individual and in it's context the attributes of freedom of religion, limitation of the citizen's freedom and the question of slavery are determined. Fourth criterium is legitimity of state, which accounts for the attribute of condition of state's legitimity. Comparative part of the work is preceded by a short introduction, which briefly introduces reader to the issue of history and theory of the social contract. There were used the essential works of the authors who deal with the theory of social contract in this work , such as: Leviathan (Hobbes), Second Tract of Government (Locke), Du Contract Social (Rousseau), Discours sur les sciences et les arts (Rousseau) Essay Concerning Toleration (Locke).
