The Gender Diversity in The Profession of a Kindergarten Teacher

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na genderovou problematiku v profesi učitele mateřské školy, jež se projevuje v nedostatku mužů-učitelů v mateřské škole. V teoretické části jsou zpracována témata vztahující se ke zvolenému tématu, zejména otázky genderových stereotypů, tradičního rozdělení mužských a ženských rolí, posouzení přidané hodnoty mužské-ho elementu v mateřské škole a statistické údaje o počtech mužů učitelů v předškolním vzdělávání v současnosti. Obsahem empirické části jsou výsledky výzkumného šetření, jehož cílem bylo zjistit příčiny nedostatku mužů učitelů v mateřské škole, motivaci mužů pro výběr povolání učitele v mateřské škole a průzkum postojů ředitelek/ředitelů mateřských škol k většímu zastoupení mužů v profesi učitele. Součástí práce je vyhodnocení závěrů a doporučení.

Abstract:

This Bachelor´s Thesis is based on gender issues in the profession of kindergarten teachers, which becomes evident in the lack of male teachers in the kindergartens. The theoretical part works with topics related to the chosen topic, especially the questions of gender stereotypes, traditional dividing male and female roles, reviewing of added value of the male element in the kindergarten and statistical data about the amount of men in the preschool education in the present-day. The empirical part contains results of the research the aim of which was to find out causes of male teachers shortage in the kindergarten, men´s motivation for choosing kindergarten teacher profession and furthermore the research of kindergarten headmasters´ attitudes to a higher number of male teachers. The evaluation of the gained results and suggestions are also a part of this Bachelor´s Thesis.
