The role of OSCE in the Kosovo conflict

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá analýzou role Organizace pro bezpečnost a spolupráci v Evropě (OBSE) v kosovském konfliktu, který byl jednou z nejvážnějších krizí v Evropě od konce druhé světové války. Aby bylo možné určit její roli, je nejprve charakterizována samotná organizace a dále je představen teoretický rámec, který je základem práce. V úvodních kapitolách jsou také přiblíženy i role ostatních mezinárodních organizací, které se zabývají řešením konfliktů, což dále v práci slouží ke srovnání s rolí OBSE. Na základě literatury a poznatků z prvních kapitol jsou vymezeny a charakterizovány tři role OBSE: role OBSE jako specifické organizace, role OBSE jako aktéra konfliktu a role OBSE jako organizátora misí.

Abstract:

This thesis is dealing with analysis of the role of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Kosovo conflict – one of the most serious crisis in Europe since the end of the Second World War. In first chapter there is characterization of organisation itself and presentation of theoretical framework of the thesis. The roles of other conflict-resolution international organisations are described further in the thesis and later they are compared with role of OSCE. Based on the literature and findings from previous chapters 3 roles of the OSCE are defined: OSCE as specific organization, OSCE as the participant of the conflict and OSCE as the organizator of missions.
