Abstract:

Název této diplomové práce je Bob Dylan´s Time out of Mind. Cílem této práce je analýza textů alba Boba Dylana Time out of Mind z roku 1997. Práce zdůrazňuje vývoj, postup a vlivy v Dylanově tvorbě až do vydání alba. Práce je rozdělena do pěti kapitol. První čtyři kapitoly slouží jako vhled do vývoje Dylanovy skladatelské mysli a jsou rozděleny po dekádách. První kapitola analyzuje Dylanův vstup na širší hudební scénu v šedesátých letech, důležitou transformaci z Roberta Zimmermana v Boba Dylana, vliv britské tradiční balady na Dylanovu tvorbu, význam víry v jeho tvorbě a Dylanovo vymanění se z vlivu svých idolů a hledání své vlastní hudební identity, která mu byla dlouhou dobu odepírána zájmy různých skupin seskupujícíh se kolem něj. Druhá kapitola pojednává o hudebních a přístupových experimentech Dylana a to nejen z hlediska zvuku a aranží, ale také z hlediska tvorby textů. Třetí kapitola je zaměřena především na víru v Dylanově životě a její vliv na Dylanův pohled na smysl jeho produkce a na společnost jako takovou. Čtvrtá kapitola popisuje počátek devadesátých let, kdy se Dylan pomalu a úspěšně vrací do podvědomí širší společnosti. Poslední, pátá, kapitola analyzuje texty alba Time out of Mind skladbu po skladbě. V závěru práce jsou shrnuty nosná témata alba. Seznam primární a sekundární literatury a dalších zdrojů, použitých pro tuto diplomovou práci, je uveden na poslední straně práce. V příloze jsou uvedeny texty z alba a báseň Roberta Burnse.

Abstract:

The name of this thesis is Bob Dylan´s Time out of Mind. The aim of this thesis is the analysis of the lyrics of Bob Dylan´s album Time out of Mind from 1997. The thesis stresses the development, process and influences in Dylan´s work, up to the year of releasing the album. The thesis is divided into five chapters. The first four chapters serve as an insight into the development of Dylan´s composer mind and are distinguished according to decades. The first chapter analyzes Dylan´s entry to the wider music scene in the 1960´s, the important transformation of Robert Zimmerman to Bob Dylan, the influence of the British traditional ballad on Dylan´s work, the significance of belief in his work and Dylan´s freeing from the influence of his idols and searching for his own music identity which he was for a long time deprived of by interests of groups surrounding around him. The second chapter deals with music, filming and approaching experiments of Dylan not only from the perspective of sound and instrumental presentation but also from the perspective of writing the lyrics. The third chapter is focused mainly on the influence of belief on Dylan´s view of his production and the society as such. The fourth chapter describes the beginning of the 1990´s when he slowly and successfully comes back into the consciousness of the wider society. The last, the fifth, chapter analyzes the lyrics of Time out of Mind track by track. The album´s bearing themes and the musical procedures are summarized in the conclusion of the thesis. The list of primary and secondary literarture and other sources, used for the thesis is given in the last page of the thesis. There are the album´s lyrics and a poem by Robert Burns featured in the appendices.
