Discrimination against Roma people residing in Šluknov Hook within the labour market

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřená na diskriminaci Romů ze Šluknovského výběžku na trhu práce. Hlavním cílem je zjistit, jaký postoj mají ke vzdělávání a zaměstnání, jestli zažívají diskriminaci při vzdělávání, hledání a výkonu zaměstnání, jaké formy diskriminace zažívají a jak je řeší. K dosažení cíle je využito polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s deseti Romy ze Šluknovského výběžku, konkrétně z měst Varnsdorf, Rumburk a Šluknov. Práce přináší pohled na způsob, jakým romské etnikum ze Šluknovského výběžku prožívá nebo prožívalo svou účast na pracovním trhu a ve vzdělávacím systému. Na konci práce dávám návrhy možných aktivit, které by mohly současnou situaci zlepšit. Práce se skládá ze dvou částí. V první části jsou teoretické poznatky týkající se etnického původu, diskriminace, sociálně vyloučených lokalit a romského etnika. Ve druhé části jsou popsány metody a postup výzkumu. V závěru jsou data interpretována a diskutována.

Abstract:

This master's thesis aims to comprehensively investigate discrimination against the Roma people residing in Šluknov Hook within the labor market. The primary objective is to examine their experiences concerning education and employment, specifically focusing on identifying instances of discrimination during educational pursuits, job searching, and job performance. The thesis also aims to explore the various forms of discrimination faced by Roma individuals and shed light on their coping mechanisms. To achieve these objectives, a semi-structured interview approach will be employed, involving 10 Roma participants from Šluknov Hook. Thematic analysis will be utilized to analyze the collected data. The significance of this research lies in its contribution to understanding the Roma community's encounters with discrimination in both the labor market and education system. At the end, the thesis concludes by presenting recommendations on how to ameliorate the current situation. The initial part of the thesis provides a comprehensive overview of theoretical knowledge in the areas of ethnic origin, discrimination, socially excluded localities, and the Roma ethnicity. The subsequent section delves into the research methods and outlines the research process. Finally, the thesis interprets and discusses the gathered data in the concluding section.
