Hollywood blockbuster: recipe on success

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je odpovědět na otázku, zda existuje způsob, jakým by si hollywoodská filmová studia mohla při vypuštění svých blockbusterů zajistit zisk. Je vskutku možné se na tomto nejistém a stále se měnícím trhu vyhnout riziku a nalézt jakýsi "recept na úspěch", možnost minimalizovat své náklady a dosáhnout alespoň středních tržeb, i kdyby daný film u publika nesklidil úspěch? Abychom nalezli odpověď na tuto otázku, podíváme se podrobněji na proces filmové tvorby, následně se zaměříme na jednotlivé faktory úspěchu filmu. Ověřit si naše hypotézy nám pomůže analýza komerčních výsledků úspěšné tetralogie blockbusterů "Piráti z Karibiku".

Abstract:

This article aims to answer the question whether it is possible for Hollywood studios to ensure their profits. Is there a way the filmmakers could minimize their costs and gain at least moderate earnings, no matter how the spectators react? Is there any "recipe for success", given the changing and unpredictable nature of the movie market? To resolve this enigme, we are going to make a research on the process of filmmaking, then we will concentrate on the factors that have the most important impact on a movie's success. Eventually, we will test our theory on the example of a precise blockbuster series, "Pirates of the Carribean," which belong among the most successful modern movies.
