The Decline of Neoliberalism from the Perspective of Private Property

Abstract:

Tato práce obecně pojednává o sporu mezi obhájci volného trhu (liberály) a jeho odpůrci (socialisty). Přezkoumává se problém, zda socialisté podléhají kognitivním biasům při kritice liberalismu, a to na pozadí otázky, co je to volný trh. Nejprve je představena hlavní historická linie liberalismu, která má blíže uvést základní liberální myšlenky. Posléze jsou tyto liberální myšlenky porovnány se socialistickými námitkami. Na základě studia těchto námitek je pak vyhodnocováno, do jaké míry tyto námitky odrážejí socialistické porozumění volného trhu, a tudíž liberalismu. Ze závěrů práce nakonec vyplynulo, že socialisté kognitivním biasům zřejmě podléhají. Ukázalo se, že mezi liberály a socialisty totiž panuje natolik velké nedorozumění, že jej nelze vysvětlit jinými možnými skutečnostmi.

Abstract:

The thesis outlines the dispute between advocates of free market (liberals) and of its opponents (socialists). The work examines the question whether socialists tend to succumb to cognitive biases when criticising liberalism, against the background of searching for the definition of free market. First, the main historical line of liberalism is described to outline its basic liberal principles. Subsequently, these liberal ideas are compared with socialist objections. Based on the discussion about the identified arguments, the work then evaluates to what extent these objections reflect the socialist understanding of free market, and therefore liberalism. The conclusion of the thesis eventually reveals the fact that socialists really are influenced by cognitive biases. As it turns out, the misunderstanding between liberals and socialists is so wide that it cannot be explained by other factors.
