Nutritional problems of the elderly

Abstract:

Úvod: Problematika výživy je aktuální téma. Nedostatečná výživa má řadu dopadů a její příčiny jsou multifaktoriální. Poruchy výživy jsou ve stáří častější než v mladším věku. Proto je nutné u seniorů provádět pravidelný nutriční screening a zavádět vhodné intervence, kdy je hlavním cílem zejména zlepšení kvality života jedince. Cíl práce: Zjistit pomocí MNA-SF nutriční stav náhodně vybrané skupiny institucionalizovaných seniorů v domově důchodců, ve kterém probíhá screening nutričního stavu a intervence. Mezi dílčí cíle patřilo porovnat nutriční stav institucionalizovaných mužů a žen a navrhnout doporučení do praxe. Metodika: Šetření nutričního stavu proběhlo pomocí standardizovaného dotazníku MNA-SF. Data použitá v dotazníku byla vstupní hodnocení seniorů domova. Výsledky byly graficky zobrazeny jak dohromady, tak zvlášť ženy a muži. Kritérium byl věk nad 65 let, jinak byl výběr náhodný. Počet respondentů souboru byl 58, z toho 29 žen a 29 mužů. Výsledky: Z celkového počtu seniorů bylo 19,0 % v malnutrici, 41,4 % bylo v riziku malnutrice a 39,7 % mělo normální výživový stav. Z žen bylo 20,7 % v malnutrici, 34,5 % bylo v riziku malnutrice a 44,8 % mělo normální výživový stav. Z mužů bylo 17,2 % v malnutrici, 48,3 % bylo v riziku malnutrice a 34,5 % mužů mělo normální výživový stav. Závěr: Výskyt malnutrice a jejího rizika byl poměrně vysoký. Více žen bylo v malnutrici, přičemž více mužů bylo v riziku malnutrice. Pozornost by měla být věnována obzvláště ženám, jelikož výsledky vypovídají, že jsou více ohroženy malnutricí nežli muži.

Abstract:

Introduction: Nutrition problems are an actual topic. Malnutrition has a number of effects and its causes are multifactorial. Eating disorders are more common in elderly than in younger ones. Therefore, it is necessary to perform regular nutritional screening for seniors and introduce appropriate interventions, where the main goal is to improve the quality of life of the individual. Objective: To determine the nutritional status of a randomly selected group of institutionalized seniors in a retirement home using MNA-SF, in which the screening of nutritional status and intervention takes place. The partial goals were to compare the nutritional status of institutionalized men and women and to create a recommendation for practice. Methodology: The survey of nutritional status was performed using a standardized MNA-SF questionnaire. The data used in the questionnaire were the initial evaluation of seniors from the retirement home. The results were graphically displayed both together and separately for women and men. The criterion was age over 65, otherwise the selection was random. The number of respondents in the group was 58, of which 29 were women and 29 were men. Results: Of the total number of seniors, 19.0% were in malnutrition, 41.4% were at risk of malnutrition and 39.7% had a normal nutritional status. Of women, 20.7% were in malnutrition, 34.5% were at risk of malnutrition, and 44.8% had a normal nutritional status. Of the men, 17.2% were in malnutrition, 48.3% were at risk of malnutrition, and 34.5% of men had normal nutritional status. Conclusion: The incidence of malnutrition and its risk was relatively high. More women were in malnutrition, whereas more men were at a risk of malnutrition. Special attention should be paid to women, as the results suggest that they are more at risk of malnutrition than men.
