Effectiveness of Memory Training in People with Brain Organic Impairment

Abstract:

Cílem práce bylo ověření efektivity neuropsychologické rehabilitace u osob s Alzheimerovou demencí. V teoretické části je podán částečný přehled dosavadních výzkumů týkajících se paměti a neuropsychologické rehabilitace. Cílem praktické části bylo zjistit, zda je možné u osob s Alzheimerovou demencí pozitivně ovlivnit průběh tohoto onemocnění. K tomu byla vytvořena speciální metodika a užity další nespecializované metody kognitivního tréninku. Efekt různých druhů kognitivní rehabilitace byl ověřován metodou test – retest v časovém odstupu 3 měsíců na souboru 9 osob s diagnózou Alzheimerova demence. K diagnostice byly použity standardizované testové nástroje nebo jejich části - WAIS-R (subtesty Informace, Opakování čísel, Slovník a Kostky), WMS-R (Vizuální reprodukce I a II, Vizuální asociační učení I a II) a Paměťový test učení. Celkově lze říci, že výsledky výzkumu potvrdily pozitivní vliv neuropsychologické rehabilitace na stav alespoň některých kognitivních funkcí osob s Alzheimerovou chorobou. Zlepšení se prokázalo nejenom tam, kde trénink probíhal na podobných typech úloh, ale došlo i ke generalizaci v oblasti některých dalších kognitivních funkcí.

Abstract:

This paper was developed to check the effectivenes of neuropsychological rehabilitation in people with Alzheimer’s disease. A partial overview of recent researches in memory and memory rehabilitation is presented in a theoretical part. The purpose of the practical part was finding if the process of Alzheimer’s disease could be influenced positively. For that reason have been developed a special metodology and unspecialized ways of cognitive training were used. The effectiveness of various cognitive rehabilitation techniques was proved by test-retest method in a group of 9 people with Alzheimer’s disease within period of 3 months. To make a diagnosis a standardised testing methods or their parts were used – WAIS-R (the subtests Informations, Vocabulary, Block Design and Digit Span) WMS-R (subtests Verbal Paired Associates I and II, Visual Paired Associates I and II) a The Auditory - Verbal Learning Test. Overall, it could be said that the results confirmed positive effects of the neuropsychological rehabilitation at least on some cognitive functions in people with Alzheimer’s Disease. The evidence of improvement was found not only in the training with similar kinds of tasks, but there was foud out generalization for some other cognitive functions.
