Linearity of response and dead time of radiometers

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá mrtvou dobou detektorů, její problematikou, měřením, a s ní související linearitou odezvy elektronických radiometrů. První teoretické část se věnuje způsobům vzniku fotonového záření, jeho vlastnostem, interakcemi s okolním světem a účinkům na živé organismy. Druhá část se zabývá samotnou detekcí záření a typy radiometrů. Poslední část je věnována parametrům radiometrických přístrojů a je v ní teoreticky rozebrána problematika mrtvé doby a linearity odezvy. Praktická část se zabývá měřením mrtvé doby a konkrétní problematikou, která při měření nastala. Zhodnocuje její možné příčiny a snaží se některé z příčin vyloučit. Všechna proběhlá měření jsou graficky zpracována s přiloženou tabulkou pozorovaných a očekávaných hodnot k nahlédnutí. U přístroje Nucline TH-33 se v práci věnuji také jeho energetickému rozlišení a zhodnocení spektra zdroje 99mTC při vysokých četnostech dopadajících impulzů, jeho vliv na počítání impulzů a výsledný obraz, který je ovlivněn nehomogenitou detekce.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis deals with the dead time of detectors, its problems, measurements, and the related linearity of the response of electronic radiometers. The first theoretical part focuses on the ways of photon radiation, its properties, interactions with the surrounding world, and effects on living organisms. The second part focuses on the detection of radiation and types of radiometers. The last part is devoted to the parameters of radiometric instruments and it theoretically discusses the issue of dead time and linearity of response. The practical part focuses on the measurement of dead time and specific issues that occurred during the measurement. It evaluates its possible causes and tries to eliminate some of the causes. All measurements are graphically processed with an attached table of observed and expected values for inspection. With the Nucline TH-33 device, I also focus on its energy resolution and evaluation of the spectrum of the 99mTC source at high frequencies of incident pulses, its influence on pulse counting, and the resulting image, which is affected by the inhomogeneity of detection.
