Psychological aspects of forgiveness in people in young adulthood

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na psychologické souvislosti odpuštění u lidí v mladé dospělosti, na generativitu a sebehodnocení. Cílem této práce bylo prozkoumat vztahy mezi odpuštěním a jeho druhy – odpuštěním sobě, druhým a situacím – a generativitou a sebehodnocením. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 355 osob ve věku 18 – 35 let (65,9 % žen a 34,1 % mužů), průměrný věk je 23,95 let. Pro zjištění úrovně odpouštění jsme použili dotazník Heartland Forgiveness Scale (HFS), pro úroveň generativního zájmu Loyola Generativity Scale (LGS), pro úroveň generativního jednání Generativity Behavioral Checklist (GBC) a pro sebehodnocení Rosenbergovu škálu sebehodnocení (RSES). Pozitivní korelace jsme našli mezi odpuštěním a generativitou a mezi odpuštěním a sebehodnocením. Nejmenší souvislost se sledovanými proměnnými mělo odpuštění druhým. Výsledky v práci podrobněji rozepisujeme a kriticky je zhodnocujeme v diskuzi.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with psychological aspects of forgiveness in people in young adulthood, with generativity and self-esteem. The goal of the thesis was to explore the relationships between forgiveness and it’s types – forgiveness of self, others and situations – and generativity and self-esteem. The research sample consisted of 355 respondents between 18 and 35 years of age (65,9 % females a 34,1 % males), mean age was 23,95 years. For the measurement of the level of forgiveness we used Heartland Forgiveness Scale (HFS), for the level of generative concern we used Loyola Generativity Scale (LGS), for the level of the generative behaviour we used Generativity Behavioral Checklist (GBC) and for self-esteem we used Rosenberg’s Self-esteem Scale (RSES). Positive correlations were found between forgiveness and generativity and forgiveness and self-esteem. The least connection to measured variables was discovered for forgiveness of others. In our work we describe results in details and we critically evaluate them in the discussion.
